A good place to learn about the Service desk industry

Dec 12, 2014 - Anonymous Employee in Bangalore

      Pros

      - Good place to learn if you interested in upping your career in the field. - Environment mostly good, with fun activities when management decides to spend a little money on employees. - Mostly good people to work with, and made some really close friends for life. - Rarely a dull day at office - Training to keep the people up to date, although sometimes its reactive to a bad situation - leading it to be more of damage control(guess that makes it a Con)

      Cons

      - Lots and lots of Office politics!!! - although you learn to deal with it, so I'm not sure if its a Pro or Con. - Salary differences between people on same level can lead to unhealthy environment at times. - Favoritism shown by certain upper management staff. - Low work-life balance if you are in a managerial role: you are expected to stay longer, and no over time is to be expected

      Pros

My direct leader has been wonderful, I can say the same for the team I've been managing and my colleagues. We were always supporting each other and coming to each other's aid.

      Cons

The upper management is a bunch of incompetent clowns. Any decision made by them is never in favour of the employees. Lack of incentives - paid overtimes do not exist (at least at my level), salary raises almost non-existent. Salaries in general are very low, compared to competitors.

Top Down Lying and Corruption at Unisys

      Jul 28, 2020 - Senior Engineer
      Recommend
      CEO Approval
      Business Outlook

      Pros

You can work with some newer technology, depending where you work. There may be a chance for some work life balance, depending on where you work.

      Cons

Expect a few constants when working at Unisys. Toxic upper management. Corrupt HR and Legal departments. Extremely unethical business practices. Lower than average salary. Peter Altabef, the CEO, will lie to you as an employee at this company. He will say whatever is necessary to keep you complacient. Anyone who points out alternate or superior views, or brings facts to contradict what he is saying will be fired or fored to resign. For example, in early 2020, Peter Altabef announced globally that Unisys was being directed to move contractor work back to FTEs in order to preserve the FTE jobs during the Covid pandemic. Not only did this not happen, but contractor work was expanded and FTEs were laid off. Requests for transfer are also denied, stating that there is no work, only to find out that the work did in fact exist and was transferred to other staff. HR and Legal are your typical sort, they are there to protect the company and themselves. All decisions are based on the relationships with those involved to upper management and HR. Evidence is not considered and no attempt is made to examine and discuss in a reasonable manner. On the topic of ethical business practice, in some regions in the middle of 2020, Unisys decided that they would simply ban commuting travel rights for driving to the work site in a car. This in effect forces some regions and countries to use public transportation. Crowded public transportation - in the midst of the Covid pandemic! On the topic of middle management, if you are wooed with promises of promotions, or other benefits, I would highly recommend that you get these things in writing. If management balks at this, you can consider the words as simply hot air to get you motivated. As soon as the target is reached, you will be laid off in favor of cheaper outsourced contractors. Company communication is secretive, and extreme efforts are taken by senior management to prevent employees from freely discussing any problems on the companies Yammer. This focused attempt to suppress open communication is extremely toxic, and is a direct result of middle management attempting to save themselves from looking bad when performance is low or some aspect of work is failing. The Unisys Legal department, despite being shown that the company is clearly breaking local employment laws, fails to take any actions to rectify the issues or to become compliant with labor laws, despite being required to do so in company ethics and rules. On the topic of managers assigned to manage a region in which they do not speak the local language / have not lived in said region for an extended period of time. Be aware that it is very likely the manager will make numerous and repeated mistakes when dealing with the local businesses, people, and culture. If you do work at Unsiys, I highly recommend that you do 2 things. 1: Document EVERYTHING. 2: If you are confronted with any sort of problem or issue against you, demand to see all evidence prior to attending any sort of meeting or speaking about the issues. Get it all in writing. The outlook for this company is not good, considering how deep the lies and corruption has spread.

By far the worst place I ever worked

Nov 22, 2019 - Tech Support Representative in Salt Lake City, UT

      Pros

Coworkers and a paycheck are the only reason to show up each day.

      Cons

Benefits were horrible, they didn't cover much for what I needed. The pay was low. Upper management is not invested in their employees. Very strict workplace, not a very enjoyable experience for 9 hours of your day, 5x per week. HR tried to push you away if you had any issues at all. You are a number here.
