I worked at Upstate Medical University full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

There is always something to learn if you're willing to try. Good Benefits. A lot of great people working there.

    Cons

Too much red tape, Pay in the Skilled Trades area is lacking for the responsibility you are expected to take on. Lack of respect for the work you do by many others including management and up.

    Advice to Management

Treat your Trades like you do your medical staff and you will be able to retain the good workers while providing the absolute best for the patients and visitors.

I have been working at Upstate Medical University full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Between the union and the hospital the will pay for your education. The union is great.

    Cons

I've never experienced racism on this level l,not even when I lived down south. They nursing (RN) and management are degrading and feel they can talk to you any kind of way, and soon as you defend yourself even professionally they lash out some kind of way. They don't like to be told they're wrong.

    Advice to Management

Have the backbone to defend all of your employees not just your RN'S and caucasian employees

I have been working at Upstate Medical University full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

PEF Union benefits for RNs are the best in the organization. There is work being done to receive Magnet status which is improving the culture of the organization.

    Cons

It is quite challenging to obtain an internal transfer because it is such a large organization. There is a lot of competition.

    Advice to Management

Listen to and empower your staff.
