Pleasant, but no growth unless at HQ. This is NOT a start-up company.

      Pros

Leading-edge Converged Infrastructure technology and vision.

      Cons

Terrible work/life balance (expect 80-hour work weeks). Extremely limited job growth unless in Richardson (HQ). Bound by parent companies (primarily EMC). Proceed with caution before signing on.

Onward and Upward - Hang on for the ride!

      Pros

Even with the financial backing of some very successful companies, VCE is still a very entrepreneurial place to work. After only 3 years, its beginning to really form a name for itself without the bureaucracy of similar sized organizations. Depending in the area you work, it can be a fast paced, exciting place to work.

      Cons

Some of the key challenges that face VCE are its dependence on it's parent companies, minimal back-office policies and procedures, and undefined career progression. Over time, VCE will have more intellectual property of its own that will help it stand on its own. They are working on established back-office procedures but not a primary focus. In terms of career progression, only time will tell.

Ok stepping stone, non competitive salaries and no work/life balance

      Pros

Good Benefits, engineers are very knowledgeable. Peers generally good people.

      Cons

Management and Senior leadership, no clear direction. Even thought this company is not public the main focus is getting money back to parent companies. No work/life balance. At the end of the day they will let you go even if you are a valued asset. Management can talk the talk but not walk the walk. Spineless Senor directors, middle management is all about finding the cruise control button and making "safe" decisions. This company is far to young to be playing it safe.

      Pros

Nice people, good product, great benefits

      Cons

Too many management layers, Management is a bunch of prima donnas coasting on past acolades. Too many "rich" parent companies calling the shots!

      Startup drive, big company backing

      Pros

Clear customer-centric attitudes exist throughout departments. Smart passionate people to work with.

      Cons

running fast is fun, but have to be ready to shift direction quickly. Sometimes, but not always, there is a mandated direction from "parent companies" that causes these direction shifts.

      Not the Cutting Edge

      Pros

VCE offers a good salary and benefits among people who care about work/life balance. The three sponsor companies are "high fliers" in the networking and data center markets, so they are working (generally) to integrate "best in breed" products.

      Cons

VCE is saddled with the disagreements between the three parent companies, and has very little leverage to "push back" to make their business better. Most of the people who work at VCE have a strong storage background, so the network side is often misunderstood and misjudged. IT support is horrible, strongly micromanaged, completely at odds with the rest of the company's strong emphasis on work/life balance.

EMC with a dash of Cisco. Hold the VMware.

      Pros

Well funded. Majority owned by EMC. CEO Joe Tucci is a winner.

      Cons

No real product intellectual property here. It is a rack and stack IT reseller of virtualized hardware. It is a by product of the highly evolved virtualization hardware marketplace. Certainly not a strategic place to be, unless you think being a plumber is cool. Odd thing, VCE positions itself as a startup (high risk for you), but actually it is a joint venture with lots of parent baggage (low reward for you). Filled with castoffs from the parent companies with no JV experience. Summary: No vision, fuzzy strategy, too many conflicts in the routes to market. It is an EMC experiment with Cisco lurking about. VMware is a silent investor.

      Cons

Broken culture - the worse of all three parent companies.
