I have been working at Vestas Wind Systems full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Lots of good work to be done if you know how to market yourself. Plenty of resources to learn the state of the art technology

    Cons

Poor Management in Chennai office. The management team and the HR Team in Chennai are sub standard at best. Evaluation criteria for India offices are based on metrics that are suitable for Scandinavian offices. Some important local elements are completely missed in the process of striving for improvement. Working style is hierarchical however, the office operates under the facade of a flat organization as promoted in Denmark. It doesnt serve the purpose of either working styles. Unnecessarily secretive working style too.

I worked at Vestas Wind Systems

    Pros

    Good infrastructure,Good colleagues,Work Life balance .

    Cons

I admire the company .But the company some how has wrong people placed in wrong position Specially in india the Quality Department ,current Senior General Manager & General manager both seated at comfortable position .Senior GM being @ the highest level of decision making even the Local HR doesn't have an upper hand over him .Please en quire about their leadership and management of both in quality department from ex-employees & current employees you will know for yourself.Data points shows none of the people worked under them where happy about their management @ local quality department in india ...The following position in quality (Assistant Manager,Manager,Senior Manager,DGM,Specialist,BB/MBB position opened currently above are under SGM & GM .Please be careful do not get excited looking at the promises they make on the Job description it may look attractive foreign travel. One thing your job is not secure at any time once mission accomplished you are thrown away @ no mercy .There are few good departments who value and respect ex-employee who were laid off .The quality department runs by its own protocol they do not value or respect ex -employees who are laid off so when there is no consideration for their own ex-employees to how much extent are you will be under consideration ....?????I am still to recover from the aftermath of layoff .India doesnt have strong labor laws as Denmark has where the government pay's you if you are job less for a year Please think before you take a decision always ........

The company is run from Denmark, leaving little opportunity for advancement in the US.

I worked at Vestas Wind Systems full-time

    Pros

Young culture, environmentally friendly company, depending on your work location there can be many perks.

    Cons

Company is continually deaf to employee surveys and feedback (especially if you live outside of Denmark), many jobs are now being outsourced and the outsourcing is managed poorly. Reporting structures can be difficult if you work in one country but report to a group that sits in another.

I have been working at Vestas Wind Systems full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Vestas is a great place to learn about wind, renewables, how products and components work and to meet a lot of great people. They have an awesome onboarding system and really work to make sure you get trained in whatever area you need.

    Cons

Layoffs started within 3 months of my hire date. The wind industry is not a stable career unless you are in the service technician category. They hired the best and brightest and laid them off without qualms. Although Vestas is a "global company" don't ever forget that it is a Danish company and when the going gets tough, everything goes back to Denmark.

I worked at Vestas Wind Systems full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

    Good work Benefits and Pay

    Cons

Blades had a great payroll and recruiting department. A Shared Services division was created. People out of the Portland Sales and Service business unit took over payroll & benefits, recruiting and finance. They let go of some very good, successful employees in the Blades BU and handed it over to people either incompetent or who’s #’s couldn’t match the people they let go. The culture with Blades was one of support and encouragement…the culture out of Portland is one of fear and intimidation. Before Shared Services, the Blades turnover #’s were below 5%. Portlands #’s were around 18% turnover. Now Blades turnover is matching Portlands #’s so I guess they got what they wanted. Beware, Vestas’s CEO made it very clear, if the wind tax credit is not extended by congress, all manufacturing jobs in the US will be eliminated. This is a sinking ship who’s captains in Denmark do not know what the left hand is doing from their right hand.

I worked at Vestas Wind Systems full-time for more than a year

    Pros

I see some good things in this company. Non traditional energy, technology challenges, work life balance, good working level people,

    Cons

But there are a countless number of things which makes this company bad 1) Wrong compensation provided to joining employees and changed immediately after 1st year 2) Management not focused be it in Denmark or different sites. It seriously looks like they would like to dump the company to next available buyer. Only that they are not finding one. 3) Bad IT and Database infrastructure. This is one big mess. No one in world knows who is buying and who is controlling. Seriously, I am not surprised that they are doing a big loss. 4) Improper supplier and customer negotiation. Both department needs to understand Sales need to understand that in squeeze market it is not good to sell at cheap and supply chain need to understand that they cannot go to vendors with gold in their hand. This is royally eating the companies on both sides. 5) Undue expansion and rampant restructuring. Both has no meaning.

I worked at Vestas Wind Systems

    Pros

Vestas is a fantastic company in that there benefits and training are some of the best I've ever seen. 4 weeks vacation right off the bat, and the opportunity to take all manner of training courses if you're interested.

    Cons

Because Global Headquarters are in Denmark, some of the decision making is out of the hands of the U.S. based leadership team.

    Pros

Really great company to work for. The people are all very motivated to continue to drive the wind industry forwards. Very open to innovation.

    Cons

The company can in some areas still be a bit Danish centric. That isn't a con in itself as I always enjoyed going to Denmark, but that effort is required.
