I worked at Virgin Media full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

A great company for benefits, training and work/life balance. You can work in many locations in the UK, allowing relocation without changing jobs and a lot of flexibility (most teams are remotely based across the UK and meet online). Depending on your ambitions there is a lot of opportunity and new jobs are constantly coming up.

    Cons

Organisational changes happen at least twice a year, resulting in constant reshuffles within teams, changing priorities, hiring and firing of personnel and a regular loss of momentum. It is very hard to progress beyond lower level management into a head of department position or higher without having the right relationships, because there seems to be little regards for qualifications of candidates and a strong bias towards relationships - Promotions are almost never based on ability alone and given the organisation changes so regularly you'd better hope your mentors and colleagues are moving in the right direction or you are staying put!

    Advice to Management

Refer to some established organisational structures and standard roles within teams. Virgin Media has a habit of re-inventing the wheel and creating job titles and teams that are vague and unclear which often results in duplication of responsibility, politics and uneven workloads. If teams are considered to be underperforming, a manager is moved on, something else is attempted, then the organisation reshuffle starts again.
