I have been working at WJE Architects & Engineers full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Never a dull day, excellent working environment, culture of trust, good pay and benefits, travel.

    Cons

Branch office work requires wearing quite a few hats and one has to work to find their niche.

    Advice to Management

Keep working to hold true to the WJE core values. Get junior staff more involved on projects with other branches to keep the company connected and tight knit.

I have been working at WJE Architects & Engineers full-time

    Pros

    - Opportunity to work on cool projects - Great for self-promoters and go-getters (can be a pro or a con) - Raises aren't the best but their bonus programs are good - Good benefits

    Cons

    - A lot of favoritism; still a major boy's club and inclusiveness with white males that is not presented across the board - Not a good work/life balance. They focus a lot on how billable you are - So busy that they push people into work without giving full and timely training - Although the female ratio has increased significantly, there are still very few females in senior positions - and absolutely zero minorities - I heard several unfortunate stories about inappropriate male behavior to female coworkers. Some were reported to HR, most were not. No repercussions appeared to take place so that may explain why people don't tell HR - clearly nothing was going to be done about it.

    Advice to Management

    - Make all of your employees feel appreciated - Start getting rid of bad employees instead of hoping they'll "weed themselves out" or get better. - Institute a ZERO TOLERANCE policy for any type of sexual harassment and inappropriateness. After the stories I've heard, it's unfortunate that a company this large with a great reputation would put themselves at risk and not take action over this type of stuff

I have been working at WJE Architects & Engineers full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Interesting work, talented and energetic folks, great compensation, and a great reputation in the industry

    Cons

If you're looking for a job, rather than a career, this isn't the place for you. Some old-fashioned dues-paying is required to make it into ownership. You can still have a life and family, but this isn't a strictly 8 to 5 job.

    Advice to Management

Stay focused on core values and grow carefully.

I worked at WJE Architects & Engineers full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Great opportunities for learning and professional development if you are a self-starter. Variety of project work and friendly staff. Would recommend to someone looking to start off in their career or make a change that may not be long-term.

    Cons

The company has outgrown its management structure- technical employees are promoted into managerial roles, even if they are not particularly strong managers. The incentive and bonus plans for junior professional staff emphasize long work hours and devotion to company goals in lieu of actual personal growth and development- management favors those who hack the plans by checking the right boxes, and steamrolls those who focus on real benefits to themselves and the company. There is little to no incentive for managers at any level to perform business development activities. The biggest con is that there is very, very poor training of staff at all levels, leading to poor quality work product and low morale in certain positions and with those who do not choose to ignore it.

    Pros

The culture is amazing. The tenure of associates brings a wealth of wisdom and focus on maintaining the values that have created an environment with a 96% retention rate. Support for the associates in regard to benefits and attention to needs exceed my expectations. The focus of the company in evaluating an individual's character as much as their technical skill sets a benchmark for other organizations to strive for.
