I have been working at Walgreens Boots Alliance full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Staff discount is good, people are nice and in general they are quite flexible.

    Cons

Constant restructuring with a culture where employees are expected to pretty much guess what the changes are, as management seem to be incapable of briefing it out. Lower levels being expected to constantly absorb higher additional workload for no extra £££ or recognition. In general, communication feels poor and management unapproachable.

    No Opinion of CEO

I worked at Walgreens Boots Alliance part-time for more than a year

    Pros

Higher than the average wage. Staff discount.

    Cons

Woeful store management- I was expected to perform managerial functions such as closing the store and cashing up while continuing to be paid a sales assistant's wage. Furthermore, I on separate occasions I was sexually assaulted by a member of the public and experienced homophobia by a colleague. On both occasions, the store management disregarded my concerns and even laughed at my account of sexual assault. No concern for employee welfare. Dangerous working conditions in my particular store. Management demanded that I should sign a heath and safety waiver within 10 minutes as I was on the till working, giving me no opportunity to read what I was signing. Poorly fitting baggy uniform (It'd be nice to feel smart, confident, and capable in what you're wearing.) Very poor staff retention. Meagre Christmas allowance- very poor staff cohesion as a result of few out of hours activities.

I have been working at Walgreens Boots Alliance part-time for more than a year

    Pros

Good teamwork in our store, get to know local customers most of whom are good, staff discount, learn about offers coming up, double discount, good employer reputation, clean place. got a giftcard for working instead of being furloughed. furloughed staf were paid 100% of contracted hours.

    Cons

Some stores need major refurb, some management need training in staff communication, no sick pay 2nd instance, took off more than my hours too, not paid for tea or lunch breaks, lunch is 1 hr, minimum wage. Not replacing staff that have left, some made redundant, getting busier with less staff, rude customers and more since corona lockdown.

I have been working at Walgreens Boots Alliance

    Pros

-Staff discount -Flexibility - New external leaders coming in with a less insular view and willing to shake up ways of working

    Cons

-Toxic meeting culture, all middle/senior mgmt do is sit in meetings all day with very low/no bias for action - Pockets of significant over resource -Very un diverse, heavily female in many areas restricting points of view/ways of working / speed of action - Too many layers of hierarchy, archaic processes and poor speed to market -Limited talent pool, doesn’t have the slick operation witnessed in the major multiples in the UK -Lack of alignment across functions, everyone going for different goals. - All in all, operating about a decade behind the rest of the market and very stuck in ‘status quo’ mode.

  9. "Good things and not so good things"

    3.0
Former Employee - Assistant Brand Manager in Nottingham, England

I worked at Walgreens Boots Alliance full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

    - It's great to grow and have experience in different business areas. The company move people around quite often so you get to experience different departments and ways of working. - The atmosphere at work is great, it has a good business culture overall and the people you work with is usually very friendly. - Staff discount on beauty products. - The people working at the business usually feel passion for what they do or for the brand they work for, which create a good competition environment between each other. - You can build lots of connections inside, it is a big company.

    Cons

    - Several approval layers - You can usually feel the work you do is not recognised, which can be demotivated. Seniors and directors levels usually give more recognition and give more support to the few working on certain projects/brands which are more important to the business, even if you do the same, if not more work than those at those projects to meet the business and your own annual objectives. -Intense work environment (this can be positive if being recognised by the business). -Salary is not great and it is definitely below the market average, although the company offers some good benefits and staff discount. - Not every team at the business has the same atmosphere unfortunately. This is all to do with the managerial style from each of the senior team managers. It could be because of the different work pressure they all have. I have experience both, very good team building atmosphere and on the other hand, the complete opposite to this.
