I worked at Westpac Group full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

    - very intelligent people / top of the market (depending on the area you work in) - generally very decent people - good career path & growth opportunities - people's behaviour are usually in line with corporate value which is not always the case in this industry

    Cons

    - too many restructures and cost cuts have ruined the culture - top management disinterested in employees - lots of politics as you move up the ladder

    Advice to Management

Think twice before restructures. Reversing a recent restructure as it is a utter failure and not acknowledging the issues it has caused is not good for employee morale.

    Pros

Big 4 Banking experience, interesting clients and scenarios

    Cons

Big 4 Bank experience, low morale due to ongoing restructures. The Group continues to add more middle management layers while outsourcing and cutting customer facing support roles.

Ok benefits, nice Melbourne office, people in the office are quite nice and welcoming. Opportunity to work on interesting deals given Westpacs position in the market.

    Cons

Senior management without a clue. Lots of bureaucracy and red tape. Endless processes. Work you to the bone, and dont reward you for it, even when your team is having a good year.

    Advice to Management

    Better remunerate your staff

I have been working at Westpac Group

    Pros

Dynamic organisations and advocate for flexible working arrangements. Good corporate citizen and environmentally responsible organisation. Good team environment.

    Cons

Pay is below market. Even though they consider their paying at market. However not many negative things to say about this company.

    Advice to Management

Consider pushing for at market pay and be competitive to attract quality staff. Though I do value their work life balance principles, which I consider to be second to none in the financial industry.

    Disapproves of CEO

I have been working at Westpac Group full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

There are a lot of experience people and it is a large well known brand name with a diverse customer base and various locations to work in

    Cons

They do prioritise the technology projects by the NPV however the budget is so limited compared to where other banks are now that people who come to work for westpac frequently are amazed at how disparate and poorly technology is done there.

    Advice to Management

Spend more on technology how to get rid of work flow issues, start taking some risks to catch up and surpass cba and anz.
