I worked at Westpac Group full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Great people, good teamwork and enjoyed working there. Great benefits

    Cons

Too much bureaucracy, X style of leadership with coercion from the top to ensure you align with their thinking process. No room for discussion

    Advice to Management

Never interacted with CEO so cannot say anything about him, but felt there was a significant gap between what the company wanted to achieve and the actions of senior management, with people trying to keep their fiefdom and making decisions that benefit themselves. When things go wrong, the management tends to disband the team fairly quickly so they cannot be blamed.

I have been working at Westpac Group full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Ideas within your own discipline easy to implement Personal and professional continuous improvement encouraged Access to funding for future development Great work Life balance which is taken advantage of with some whole teams "working from home" on Fridays or not accepted meeting request while working from home.

    Cons

Internal teams lack professionalism- not replying to email, meeting request ect. Dosent seam to be a cohesive plan to deliver to. focus shifts too often to be effective. GM's only looking for the bare minimum to pass the bar Hard to get buy in from siloed teams and Business Units - unless it is their idea they do not want to help. Resources are not replaced when people leave but the expected output of the team...

    Advice to Management

Actually think about the staffing decisions you are making and if they align to the expressed behaviors. We are heading into tough times with resource being sucked up by compliance/risk/culture issues. how about trying to make Westpac a place people want to stay and work in vs leave when the going gets hard.

I have been working at Westpac Group full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Flexible hours and you generally don’t have to work weekends, it is even looked down upon to work weekends which is nice for a bank

    Cons

Toxic culture, the leaders leaders are very dismissive, refuse to accountability and use the term feedback as a way to be abusive to staff (it is not feedback if you just make it up).

    Advice to Management

Look at removing majority of technology leaders from director level up... they can’t deliver.

    Pros

Really good for parents and encourages flexible working as long as you get your work done. Also product team runs on smaller numbers so in the current environment should avoid too many cuts

I worked at Westpac Group full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Learned heaps, plenty of opportunity to do work . I would join again as great salary and super scheme amazing. Lots of autonomy.

    Cons

Progressively becoming a work hard and little recognition of success culture. Politics is progressively rife, and hard work not really appreciated.

    Advice to Management

Invest in people and flexibility shouldn’t just be lip service.
