I have been working at Westpac Group full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Good benefits decent banking discounts and they invest in leadership programs. The strategy for service is spot on and the ceo is very good

    Cons

Political, it’s all about who you know and what they think of you, your capabilities don’t come into it, they say that they want their staff to be happy but they don’t really mean it. Senior management attack each other behind closed doors. Retail is a nightmare and there is a big disconnect between the frontline and the people making decisions for the front line.

    Advice to Management

Stop the politics, stop creating pretend roles for people who fail at state leadership, make a change to the head of retail and clean the place up from the backstabbing and sniping

I worked at Westpac Group for more than 10 years

    Pros

The Company has a great history and some great policy's such as Purchased Leave, Maternity Leave, etc, etc. Obtaining approval to use these policies is not that easy as it needs to 'fit the business'. Staffing is alway run on the tight side (and performance measures are not adjusted for leave), the reality is that it's very hard to access these policies (unless you work in Sydney head office), but they are there. ...

    Cons

Senior Management is blind (or ignores) the Banks average products and poor operational ability to deliver for customers. The Banks latest strategy is all about customers, however, the ability to deliver products and solutions for the customer is not what I think is that good. For example, as a lending manager you may get a loan approved, but getting documents in a reasonable...

    Advice to Management

    1. Listen to staff 2. Align CEO strategy to Middle Management strategy 3. Seriously look at the Banks operational ability 4. Review compensation systems and alignment to staff actions

    Pros

Ok benefits, nice Melbourne office, people in the office are quite nice and welcoming. Opportunity to work on interesting deals given Westpacs position in the market.

    Cons

Senior management without a clue. Lots of bureaucracy and red tape. Endless processes. Work you to the bone, and dont reward you for it, even when your team is having a good year.

    Advice to Management

    Better remunerate your staff

I have been working at Westpac Group full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

As a company, Westpac is very in-tune with gender diversity, work-life balance, etc. Benefits for full-time employees are good (sick leave carries over year-on-year, for example) and you might be able to find an area of the company with good people and satisfying work.

    Cons

No matter what senior management and C-level execs say, Westpac is a large bureaucracy addicted to traditional command-and-control structures and has been cutting costs for years in an attempt to appease shareholders. Factor this into any long-term career decision.

    Advice to Management

A 'keeping-the-lights-on' mentality can be damaging to areas of the business that could have ways of increasing revenue if only given the chance.

I worked at Westpac Group full-time

    Pros

The workplace environment had professional and polite group of people with great diversity, a calm and quiet culture with social outings every so often and plenty of bank-related benefits

    Cons

In terms of getting work done, it was bureaucratic with a slow decision-making process driven by multiple layers of middle and senior management. There were also excessive amounts of administrative protocols.

    Advice to Management

The main focus should be on on-boarding new business through greater levels of transparency, cooperation and accountability. Less emphasis should be placed on titles and recognition.
