I worked at Westpac New Zealand full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Lots of great people to work with.

    Cons

Mediocre middle management. There are more people managers in middle management rather than specialists - or even decently educated.

    Advice to Management

Middle management skill sets are mediocre... The typical middle manager in Westpac NZ is a low grade secondary school level intellect. Insufficient skill sets to manage change.

I have been working at Westpac New Zealand full-time

    Pros

Convenient location right above the train station Contemporary facilities Semi- Subsidized cafe - Rafters. Usually pays above the market

    Cons

Flexibility in some teams only works on paper, “face time” or “chair time” is a measure of performance for some managers. Flexibility is promised when you are joining in but depending on your manager you may never get it, you might instead get the old: "One size fits all -- your working hours are 8:30 to 5:00, no exceptions!"

    Advice to Management

Trust your people. Give them the tools and technology to do the job. Focus on the human component. Be Flexible.Empathy is a concept that needs to be understood.

I worked at Westpac New Zealand full-time for more than 10 years

      Pros

      1. Good stepping stone for those with little/no work experience. 2. Pays higher than minimum wage.

      Cons

      1. Rampant favouritism. 2. Always fail to retain experienced and capable staff.

      Advice to Management

Seems that HR shows indifference to sudden resignation and high staff turnover. Incompetent staff tend to remain whilst more capable ones left. Staff turnover is especially acute in some departments. However the HR dept is not doing any investigations to uncover the reasons. Probably that is the reason why disgruntled staff will have to resort to sending anonymous letters to complain their managers.
