I worked at Wilson Elser full-time for more than a year

    Pros

The pay was great, beautiful office, and the personalities of the professional staff is a highlight of working there. There are opportunities to experience different aspect of the legal process.

    Cons

Lack of support, and office acclamation training can slow down your productivity. Attorneys can be difficult, rude, and insulting making for a complicated work dynamic.

    Advice to Management

Offer more ways to grow the abilities of your staff.

I worked at Wilson Elser full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Large firm with a pretty established client base. Primarily low-margin insurance defense work. Thriving lobbying practice in Albany, New York.

    Cons

Very corporate/distant culture. The firm is heavily dependent on a few larger clients, which gives these clients strong leverage to push fees down and keep them low. The firm has reacted by drastically slashing support staff in order to maintain margins for the equity partners. Salaries for support staff, associates, and non-equity partners is below industry averages. This is common for all insurance defense... firms, but seems to be more true for WEMED. Do not expect a "career" unless you can tolerate salaries that lag the industry more and more, even as you gain experience.

    Advice to Management

The current emphasis on sustaining the increasingly irrational earnings expectations of equity partners at the expense of the rank and file is a sure recipe for the slow decline and eventual death of the firm.

I worked at Wilson Elser full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Various range & exposure to different areas of law. Some people are nice

    Cons

Large firm who cares about stiffing their hard working employees and putting even more money into partners pockets. They discriminate beyond belief. They screw people over and treat them like they are a dime a dozen and hold no value. I refer to this place as an HR nightmare, which guess what? THE HR Dept. IS A NIGHTMARE and they DO NOTHING to secure an equal, non discriminatory work environment. I've never seen so... many disgusting acts or persons and in a law firm nonetheless.

    Advice to Management

Sell your firm, or fire everyone in management/HR and start over. This firm is disgusting.
