      Pros

World class firm with very smart people and interesting clients. Strong comp. Nice offices. Great parental leave benefit.

      Cons

Most office perks don't keep up with SF tech companies. Bureaucratic. High billable hours requirement.

    • "Okay place - some problems but good people"

      StarStarStarStarStar
Current Employee - Accounts Payable Specialist

I have been working at Winston & Strawn full-time for more than 3 years

        Pros

        Good people, flexible work environment.

        Cons

Management is stretched too thin which leads to perplexing and unnecessary dysfunction. 5% of people do 90% of the work.

        Advice to Management

Take more time to hire. So often mgt. just wants to fill the seat and it leads to hiring incompetent employees. There's enough good ones to balance it out, but some people should NOT have jobs there.

I have been working at Winston & Strawn full-time for less than a year

        Pros

The 'bads' of big law are minimal here. People respect you far beyond what you'd think for a big law firm and are cognizant of assigning big asks after working-day hours and on weekends. Of course, you have to work during those times plenty but it's in your own hands.

        Cons

Just the typical cons of a big law firm: you don't get the most hands-on experience ever, and sometimes workflow is unpredictable week to week.

I worked at Winston & Strawn full-time for more than 5 years

        Pros

Laid back and positive culture, 2000 billable and no pressure to go much above that, good people, market pay

        Cons

        It is still big law.

I worked at Winston & Strawn full-time for more than a year

        Pros

Modern offices, coffee machine, friendly colleagues, interesting cases

        Cons

Managers yell at employees and send rude emails insisting people hurry their work with no regard to quality, providing no constructive feedback; poor training for employees on new cases

        Advice to Management

Treat employees with respect; provide constructive feedback; focus on quality not speed of production; provide better training; be honest about furloughing

I have been working at Winston & Strawn full-time for more than a year

        Pros

Great, supportive culture of proactive and passionate people! Everyone is friendly and willing to help you even cross-departmentally! Wonderful onboarding and mentor program. I felt part of the firm the moment I stepped through the doors on my first day! Also, the positive culture initiatives that Winston allocates resources to make me proud to be a Winstonite! Not only do we have fun at work with our social events,...

        Advice to Management

We have an amazing employee recognition program, I am not sure how much other departments know about this, but I would encourage everyone to participate and have management remind employees that they can participate in this! Management can nominate their employees, but also, any employee can nominate a coworker (even in other departments) for going above & beyond their job description!

I worked at Winston & Strawn full-time for more than 8 years

        Pros

Pays well and benefits are good, but medical declined a lot over the years. But that’s probably universal. The 401k contribution is very generous. 7.5 hour days as opposed to 8 for support staff; vacation and sick time is generous; overtime pay; More vacation the longer you stay. They do attempt to have gatherings once a month in the form of happy hours etc. and that’s nice. Unfortunately, that won’t be enough to...

        Cons

Some people in management should not be in management. A very micro managed company for the most part. No flexibility whatsoever. I’ve never had a job as a paralegal where I have to clock in. We had to clock in and if we were late, our supervisor got an email. Or so I was told. Paralegals bill their time. There should be flexibility. Paralegals are adults and know what is on their plate for the day. Although vacation...
