      Pros

Good people, fun atmosphere and my manager cares about us. Work life balance is good.

      Cons

Not very innovative. Bad at tech because of lack of investment. So hard to get approval to do anything.

      Growing Company, Passionate Employees

      Pros

Wizards has grown a lot in the years that I've been here, building a larger portfolio and evolving its approach to its major brands. If you already love Magic or D&D, that's a value add to your resume, but it's honestly also going to make Wizards a much more enjoyable work environment for you as well. The culture of common passions makes it a really fun environment for collaboration.

      Cons

Digital development is still not where it feels like it should be for a company this experienced and entrenched in the industry. As a result, retaining talent seems to be growing more difficult.

Too much work, low pay, bad management. Really glad I quit.

      Pros

The coworkers and friends at WOTC you will find are talented and passionate.

      Cons

I know that it's a job in gaming and it feels like a lifelong dream to work here. It isn't worth it. WOTC believes in overworking employees an insane amount. There is too much to do and not enough time. You'll be given an hour to do a task that should take four or more hours, without enough information, and be blamed for not doing a good job. There is a constant and unrelenting amount of overwork that is part of the culture. People that draw boundaries and won't work 12 hour days every day of the week will not get promoted. I saw coworkers get screamed at because of failure due to overwork and lack of support. Compared to other companies you will be underpaid. Going somewhere else will get you a big pay increase.

      Cult Mentality

      Pros

If your a fan boy this job is a dream come true. Lots of free swag, coffee and events. As well as several holidays and flexible hours. Lots of extremely smart and talented coworkers.

      Cons

The pay tends to be on the low side of average for positions in the Seattle area. They abuse the Fandom of thier products to abuse employees time and expections for compensation and career growth. The company doesn't encourage decent in opinion or diversity of thought this makes it hard for employees who don't completely embrace/support political and social positions the companies current stance pushes on its products. If you don't like the kool-aid you'll be happier and more successful working some place else.

      Executive leadership

      Pros

Co-Workers non-management are amazing people with a passion for the product and the consumers.

      Cons

Both Senior leadership all the way to Chris C. down to middle management are in an internal battle for supremacy and land ownership. The environment is toxic and very punitive, firing people for even reporting issues or incidents, whether or not they were involved in the issue.

      Low Pay, Poor Benefits

Jun 9, 2021 - Designer in Renton, WA

      Business Outlook

      Pros

Recognizable brand, strong ip, and pretty good production team that keeps projects organized and within scope.

      Cons

Pay is below average, especially for greater Seattle area. Benefits are outdated and anemic; 5% off random websites. No catered lunches, snacks are abysmal and/or for purchase, there’s free coffee I guess. Building is uninspiring, and tech comms are run on Microsoft suite so it feels like time traveling to the 90s except instead of Skype it’s Teams.

      Great brands, poor management team

Jun 1, 2021 - Marketing Manager in Renton, WA

      Business Outlook

      Pros

Wizards is a fun place to work if you are into gaming. Some great talents are working there. You would probably like the people.

      Cons

The current management team cares less about the employees and the customers. It is an awkward environment— a political organization with a top-down management style and no diversity. Only a handful of people get recognition, and they ignore the rest. Communication is lacking within the organization. They also seem to do a reorg every six months.
