I worked at Wm Morrison Supermarkets part-time

    Pros

Working in a convenience store with a young, determined manager, there was a sense of persistence in the workplace and a motivation to improve.

    - Great for initiating customer relations, as feedback and responses were often a priority.

    - A good sense of community with the employees, having come from a store with many part-time work for students there was definitely a feeling of 'work hard, play hard'.

    - Good communication between colleagues, with an emphasis on a Facebook group being utilised for store news and other information.

    - Flexible with working hours

    - Opportunities to try out new roles rather than sticking with the same line of work are available, although you must speak out for them.

    - A decent hourly rate for supermarket work.

    - The quick-paced environment can be challenging but also satisfying when targets are hit.

    - The management always ensure that employees are kept up to date with store turnovers, and areas that can be improved

    - Safety/legal paperwork is always completed.

    Cons

    - The work can often be mundane and repetitive, but this can be avoided by asking to try out new roles.

    - Colleague benefits could be improved.

    - With so much competition in the market, the expectations can often be unrealistic, especially from external managers and visitors from head office.

    - At times, shifts can either be overstaffed or understaffed, with the latter being detrimental to the quality of work and team morale.

    Pros

Big family - we're all having a challenging time but the majority pull together for advice and support. Training intentions are good.

    Cons

Expectations sometimes unachievable; when challenged are told that's the expectation so we're to get on with it. This affects morale in stores and creates labour turnover. Current colleagues are not looked after with salary with external managers being paid considerably more.

    Advice to Management

Get into the stores and understand the challenges faced

I worked at Wm Morrison Supermarkets full-time

    Pros

    Pay and benefits really good
Colleagues at Store level great to work with .
After years on negative press seems to be getting better reviews

    Cons

More expected but every month less money to spend on staff
Lot less staff around the store but expectation still the same even though not all improvements had been delivered.
Lot of people coming in from other supermarkets felt like they didn't want people who worked there for any length of time.
Always something new rolled out not always given time to get it right.

    Advice to Management

Go in with your eyes open that not all aspects of the business have improved at the same rate.
