    Advice to Management

Look at employee reviews before you blindly terminate them.

I have been working at Xilinx full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Great high tech focused company with exciting new things to work on often. Flexible work hours and vacation policies.

    Cons

Sometimes too focused on the race for the next node and not focused on real innovation. It gets really political at the top, some decision are made without data and more for political and personal benefits rather than the good of Xilinx.

    Advice to Management

Rationalize the innovations so that you do not go the way of so many companies who didn't stop to think and just continued doing what they always did.

I worked at Xilinx full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

    Fair pay and good benefits

    Cons

People don’t count, very political and exclusive, no loyalty everyone is trying to climb the corporate ladder and stepping on any one they can. Executive management is arrogant and that trickles down to middle management.

I worked at Xilinx full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

GREAT PEOPLE! Small team, challenging, hands on, collaboration is good, focussed on revenue

    Cons

HR and MGMT squeezing employees too much for costs/EPS! Very tactical, too short term focused, performance does not get reflected accurately in reviews, too much CYA as there is very heavy upper management involvement and intervention in tactical and strategic actions.

    Advice to Management

Start valuing employees more, leave the functions to their job without intervening at every level

    Cons

Top down ONLY, no employee development, its all about the business and nothing about the people

    Advice to Management

Learn to value the human collateral you have in your employees at all levels not just Directors and above.

I worked at Xilinx full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

WAS a great company to work for. There was a great feeling of camaraderie and you worked with smart, enthusiastic people every day.

    Cons

Current management seems to be a clique. If you are in the clique things are great, if not you will eventually get fired in a quarterly cost cutting move.

    Advice to Management

Get a clue. You are driving a once great place to work into a very sub-ordinary company. Your competition will continue to outpace you because they get it.

    I worked at Xilinx

    Pros

Great products and technology. Many talented and friendly employees. Promotes work-life balance. Depending on where you live, the unusual location can make for a good commute traveling opposite the rush-hour traffic.

    Cons

Employees treated as disposable tools by the Gavrielov regime; there has been a never-ending series of layoffs/RIFs throughout the company since their arrival three years ago. Cuts made without regard for employee talent and contribution. Steadily moving engineering, manufacturing, and support functions to India and Singapore. Stingy with raises and promotions; employees should just be grateful that they have a... job. Lot's of politics and a passive-aggressive environment. Headquarters are in San Jose, but location feels disconnected from Silicon Valley.

I have been working at Xilinx

    Pros

    a. Location: In the valley b. Legacy mainstream products work well in the field c. Customers are buffered from the effects of the mismanagement of the last few years d. Cafeteria

    Cons

    a. "Mean"agement will grin and stab you - (if you are thinking of a marketing job, look elsewhere) b. There is no work-life balance since Moshe and his SVPs took control - (bring Wim out of retirement please!) c. Poor job security - if you're not one of the favored employees d. Marketing is clueless about what customers want and management will force their will on the customer e. Performance management culture... came with lousy HR VP from cadence and managers abuse it now.

    Advice to Management

Leave or ask the board to sell Xilinx to a stronger company. It is not sufficient to keep increasing the cash dividend to shareholders. Xilinx has stalled compared to Altera, to which we have lost market share since 2010. Altera also has the lead in 40nm which is going to lead to market loss in the coming years as well.
