I have been working at Xilinx full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Recently a lot of positive changes in terms of perks, has a very nice gym, technically challenging you get to work on a cutting edge product. Work/life balance is very good and friendly work environment.

    Cons

Company can't compete with newer software companies due to a lot of old style management (pay, free food, encouraging diversity).

    Advice to Management

Take some more positive points from newer companies in order to retain talent

    I worked at Xilinx

    Pros

Engaging work on hard problems virtually every day, and doing so for a company that always seemed poised for rapid growth.

    Cons

Management believed that it needed to play things close to the vest, so changes in direction were unexpected, and often poorly informed by ground truth. As a result, there was much empire-building and turf-protection by middle management. There was rarely a perception by people in the bottom half of the company that everyone was on the same page (even when it was true!). What was worst, though, was that much of the...

    Advice to Management

Imposed change is only useful when it solves a problem, or anticipates a problem successfully. Otherwise, constant disruption makes it impossible to plan more than a few weeks out. While this is "agile", agile only works if you start with a working product, and are clear at each step what changes in product behavior will result from the next iteration of expected behavior.

I have been working at Xilinx full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Salary was top shelf, but has certainly leveled off. A leader in their industry. The company is profitable and has money to spend.

    Cons

It is simply a grind. Do what you are told, hit deadlines, perform better than your peers, do it all again next review period. Do same thing next review period, except better. Impossible.

    Advice to Management

Current pace is unsustainable. Good people are leaving due to unrealistic work environment.

I worked at Xilinx full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Xilinx has a great fundamental product and great processes. The core proposition is very high and is a great company to spend 5-7 years in and put in good work/get great rewards. Was very people oriented under Wim Roelandts. Was less so under Moshe Gavrielov, but (as I hear it), is still a people friendly company compared to peers. Work life balance is good (compared to peers) and in general, people are respected and...

    Cons

There were repeated cycles of failed executions on key product launches. There was also an inability to stop churn in people, org structure and products. All this stabilized in the last few years, so not sure how things are now. The business has a fundamental issue with diversification (hard to do).

    Advice to Management

Reduce churn in organization and key leadership.

I have been working at Xilinx full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Great technology, lots of interesting projects. Slowly getting more focused on software

    Cons

Very tight execution schedules makes it hard for inter-group co-operation since everyone is taxed for time Managers still don't really care about employee's careers, not much day to day feedback, nor advise or coaching on how to get to the next level. Management basically say that career advancement is up to individuals (which is true to some extent) but without visibility at higher levels it is hard for low to middle...
