I worked at Yankee Candle part-time

    Pros

I loved working alongside my co-workers and helping the guests find what product they needed. My manager was super sweet, and she really took the time to train us seasonals well. The environment was a lot of fun and just filled with the holiday spirit. I really enjoyed making and exceeding my daily sales goals.

    Cons

Too little hours for what it's worth. I had to get a second job in order to make ends meet. She hired way too many seasonals and lots of us only worked maybe 1 to 2 days a week, if that. The pay is minimum wage ($10.50/hr).

    Advice to Management

Schedule us for more hours and more days, please. Also, communicate more effectively with staff so they are on the same page. Other than that, all's well.

    Pros

It was fun experimenting with scents and candle combinations. Some of the accessories were pretty as well.

    Cons

A lot of he said, she said, and the coupons and sales were irritating to work with.

    Advice to Management

    Keep things consistent.

I worked at Yankee Candle full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    Employee discounts
    Great health Benefits

    Cons

    Rate of compensation
    Work-life balance
Unrealistic standards for resources available to meet benchmarks
    Little room for growth
    Employee development and engagement

    Advice to Management

Let’s run a business in the real world! Not in “Yankees Candle Land”. Only way to proceed forward and evolve with the ever changing retail landscape, is to access opportunities and address them. Not ignore them!

I have been working at Yankee Candle part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    - Good discount
    - Sometimes given freebies

    Cons

    - Rotas were meant to be done 4 weeks in advance but this was rarely the case.
    - There are numerous 'Black out' periods in which you can't book holiday because the shop has a sale
    - Overtime is often put in the rota before asking if you can do it
    - Insensitive to sick days

    Advice to Management

Please to do the rotas 4 weeks in advance.

    Pros

Great product and upper management is supportive for the most part.

    Cons

Pay is not competetive until you have been there for a while. Very high work load with little payroll to have other staff help

    Advice to Management

    Listen to your people.

    Pros

Friendly co-workers, friendly CEO, they care about their employees just as much as their company, & you come home smelling great!

    Cons

There were not many downsides to working at Yankee Candle. Honestly, I loved working there but it was just time for me to move out of the retail business.

    Advice to Management

Always stay kind to your customers just as you would to your employees. Without your customers, you'd be standing around doing nothing all day. Also, it's very important to love what you do - this keeps a positive and bright attitude.
