I worked at Yankee Candle part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The job is easily mastered by anyway who tries it out. It was a relaxing a peaceful pace. Co-workers/employees around the company seem to be kind and thoughtful.

    Cons

The pay for the jobs is extremely pathetic compared to other companies. It is NOT a job for anyone who is looking for decent pay or something to live off.

    Advice to Management

Increase the hourly rates for key-holders & sale associates.

I worked at Yankee Candle full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

I always made a positive change, top 1 or 2 districts when i handled 17 locations.

    Cons

7 days a week, but to be expected in this position. Businesses are 7 days a week, travel included!

    Advice to Management

My managers were communicative and clear on direction. I looked to grow with company, still love it and have been able to pass onwhat i learned.

    Pros

Work can go by quickly if you're in the groove. Fairly straightforward and easy to understand what is expected.

    Cons

Favoritism and very thinly veiled racism. Non-white people seldom get hired permanently unless they put in a 1000% effort and don't socialize. One of the "facilitators" likes to flirt with people she likes and sabotage the ones she doesn't. They like to hype you up about overtime at the beginning of the week, and then cut the hours at the middle to the end of the week. Drugs and drinking on job unchallenged, while others are fired for minor shortcomings etc.

    Advice to Management

Take your people seriously, even if they're seasonal or temporary. I believe there are people who would like to do right, but because of favoritism, the way things pan out end up in a toxic work environment.

I have been working at Yankee Candle part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

It’s never overly busy so I never feel stressed out. Customers are generally pleasant and easy to please. Sniffing candles all day is fun and relaxing as long as you’re not overly sensitive to smell. Product discount is phenomenal, 50% on all things scented, so employees can generally afford to build a collection and personal product knowledge. Always a small team even during holidays, which is great because you can really have the chance to build relationships with your co-workers. Hours have been very flexible for me and asking off is not usually a problem. Even sales associates get some vacation and sick hours.

    Cons

Having a small team of employees can be bad if you don’t like your co-workers, especially the manager. Upper management can be overly strict and not very understanding. Secret shopper comes once quarterly and the expectations are pretty ridiculous. Oddly specific dress/appearance code... you’re supposed to wear all black and grey with no visible tattoos or piercings.

    Advice to Management

Care about your workers and try to be laid-back. People work better when they’re happy and comfortable.

    Cons

  9. "Sales associate"

    StarStarStarStarStar
    Current Employee - Anonymous Employee
    Current Employee - Anonymous Employee

    Pros

You get a 50% off discount and theres honestly nothing else I can really think of that’s positive about this job.

    Cons

The company micro manages and has a lot of tiny rules that serve no purpose. No one really comes in unless it’s fall or Christmas time. There is an insanely strict dress code but it Varys on what your district manager likes. I was hired with a nose ring in and then nearly a year into the job forced to take it out because we got a new DM. The managers are dumber than a box of rocks (although mine wasn’t as terrible as others). They send us news letters we have to read through and greet the customers with these hilarious / ridiculous greetings they come up with. It’s way too much hassle to just sell two candles a day.

    Advice to Management

To corporate...Pick more educated managers. Stop micromanaging, we can’t breathe. And ps no one buys the home accessories so stop wasting the money.

I have been working at Yankee Candle full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Yankee Candle promotes within the company, has great training with product knowledge and has a family atmosphere.

    Cons

Work life balance, i.e. nights, weekends and holidays. The pay for lower management is not really competitive to other retailers.
