I have been working at Zimmerman Advertising for less than a year

    Pros

I've learned so much about the field of advertising and have been able to work on known brands with guidance from experienced professionals. I've made friends here and many of the professionals welcome the interns and invite them to meetings and pitches.

    Cons

Retail advertising is the main focus at this agency. If you are interested in advertising for other kinds of businesses you may want to look elsewhere.

I worked at Zimmerman Advertising full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Clean and beautiful facility with well known clients

    Cons

They only hire juniors or straight out of college with a low-ball offer. Senior or mid level talent joins the pool of freelancers. Valet parking will eventually ding your car.

I have been working at Zimmerman Advertising for less than a year

    Pros

Good place to start out Free soda and coffee, sometimes food Nice environment, most coworkers are great If you’re on a big account, you’ll have a better experience all around (a huge con if you aren’t, obviously)

    Cons

Salary. Everyone says it for a reason. Negotiate the highest you can and get everything in writing. The base salaries for junior positions are appalling and completely unlivable for the area. You’ll be lucky if your rent is only half of your income. High turnover rate. Lots of people use this place as a stepping stone, for good reason, and upper management doesn’t seem to care about keeping any kind of team integrity. It doesn’t make for good morale when your team is constantly changing; you start to worry about job security, which leads more people to look for new jobs and quit. Also annoying when new hires are incompetent and/or aren’t being trained properly, which adds up to a lot of wasted time and effort, always on your end and never on theirs. But then again, I guess you get what you pay for... or don’t. Time management? Never heard of it here. It’s either 0 or 100 and you never know what it’s going to be, so be prepared to stay late or work on weekends without any notice. Almost every big project we start is given to us on Friday afternoon and needs to be done by Monday morning... then we wait days for approvals and do nothing. I know part of it is “the industry” but there has to be a better system than this. Junior creatives have no voice. You do what you’re told to do, how you’re told to do it, with zero creative freedom. There are so many talented people here; utilize them instead of putting them in a creative straitjacket. Valet, which sounds nice but in reality is a pain. They whip the cars around like bumper karts in an arcade and damage them frequently. Everyone constantly complains about it, but since it impresses the clients we’re all forced to use it anyway. The lighting is migraine-inducing, especially after 8+ hours. And there’s nowhere to really get away, either. A few of those nap pods would make a huge difference. At the very least one room with lower lighting and comfy chairs.

I have been working at Zimmerman Advertising for less than a year

    Pros

The environment at Zimmerman is great to work in. All of the employees are energetic, hard working, and willing to help with whatever I need. I have learned more here in 6 weeks than I have in a semester at school.

    Cons

As a creative, I find myself bored sometimes, and overly busy others. The agency is not the most organized and it directions are sometimes unclear. Additionally, they have not coordinated any kind of outside get togethers for the interns, which I feel is important because there are over 30 of us and I still don't know people well six weeks later.

I worked at Zimmerman Advertising full-time for more than a year

    Pros

They give you a lot of responsibility and almost completely hire employees right out of college. You can work on accounts with big names and really learn the business. They really try to make it a fun work environment and they do try to do company wide activities.

    Cons

Firstly, many of the supervisors tell the employees to come and rate the company high on here, which seems unethical to me. Secondly, much of upper management can be over-bearing and there can be little respect for employees, management is usually far older than the average employee so it can be a strange complex. The ads they produce also aren't the best ones, you get told over and over again "it pays the bills", so there's not much pride in the work. Since they hire directly from college, there's a good amount of nepotism, cliques, low pay, and grievous mistakes made by inexperience...this in turn, makes HR almost like college RAs. There is a lot of turnover with employees, a lot. Their business model is to hire cheap younger employees, then make them work at a high volume and not so great quality. The model is good for now but it's not something that will last in the market for years to come, it will eventually plateau.
