I have been working at athenahealth full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Good work-life balance. And there is a lot of freedom to explore.

    Cons

Not much of development work is happening in India.

I worked at athenahealth full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    Work life balance
    Decent pay
    Occasional US visits
Team outings and year end parties

    Cons

So many incompetent middle managers either hired or promoted in recent years. They're even afraid to speak up to the US counterparts and just shake head for everything they say.

Visitors from US and local employees are treated differently, but the vice versa is not true.

The only company which has been doing so much product development using perl, so it is quite difficult to get a job outside if a person has spent more than 2 years here.

US office sees Chennai office as a place where it can dump work which it doesn't want its developers to work on, so most of the teams either do bug fixing or work on adhoc requests.

Depending on the relationship with the manager either a person gets promoted too soon or growth gets stagnated. I've seen people with 5-6 years experience promoted to manger who couldn't get a job outside because of this.

To summarise, if all you want is work life balance and don't care much about technical growth or a manager who wants to have stress free job, this is the place for you. If you want to have a good technical career growth, this is not a place for you.

    Advice to Management

Increase the standards for giving promotion. Don't give promotion just becauae a person has served x yeras in the company. Because of this there're so many middle managers without much experience and competency.
To keep the developers engaged bring in cool projects from US and not support and maintenance.

I worked at athenahealth full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

I do not think there is one.

    Cons

    - Poor people management from middle level management.
    - All the lead/Senior people are micro managing the folks to such extent that they have their teammates tagged in the chat server to monitor whether or not they are in place.
    - I was under two manager in my term there both of them are horrible as hell. Both of them were associate managers but they think of themselves as GOD.
    - One of them will schedule 1:1 every alternate day and talks about how we(everyone in the team) are performing so poor. He always compares us with his favorites and degrade us.
    - The other one used to ask for updates every 5 mins.
    - There is no way to get out of this as the management does not care about the feedback we give.

    Advice to Management

If you are not gonna consider the outcome, then please do not conduct EE surveys.

I have been working at athenahealth full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    1. This organization has an awesome work-life balance. You will feel cared.
    2. athenahealth doesn't pay too high salary but it would be above market standards. If you are a workaholic and ready to compromise work-life balance then you may feel underpaid.
    3. It started with an unmatched culture. But now, it is getting diluted because of wrong leadership. Gradually adopting service based culture. But still, it is way better than 80% companies out there. Work culture here is addicting. I am sure people who left this company must be missing athena for its culture.
4.Free cab facility, food coupons, lots of parties, disco, free food, and drinks. No dress code as such and reimburses gym membership fees up to 10K.
    5.Flexible timings.

    Cons

    1. The cafeteria is pathetic. Serves boring meals. Nobody looks into this matter
    2. Leadership is changing and culture is also getting diluted. Not an American culture totally.
    3. Annual hikes are poor.

    Advice to Management

Please do something for retaining employees.Management tries to retain them after they put their papers, which is useless. Give hikes, promotions, awards and recognitions to make them stay. A company is made by its employees so please retain them. Attrition rate is very high nowadays.

    Pros

    - Learning the art of bug fixing in less time and patching up.
    - Learning from people from cross functional backgrounds and different skill sets.
    - Some people demonstrated excellent developer mindset and can learn a lot from them.

    Cons

    - Mostly bug fixing work, less respect from US fellow employees and unrealistic expectations. Expect mails about top to bottom changes in architecture without any notice or discussions.

    - Outright obsolete technology ( Perl & Webservices) and extremely difficult to find a job outside with the same skill set. Many switched companies just for this one reason.

    - Frequent calls during the evenings and nights which will DESTROY your work-life balance.

    - The MICRO- Managers are workaholics and expect employees to stretch on par which leaves the employees stressed
    out.

    - Managers not the company have the SUPREME authority to take decisions over any employee. HR team is spineless.

    Advice to Management

    - Please learn how process are adhered strictly from CMMI Level -5 companies. People are not fools anymore to follow your oppressive policies.

    - Please work on creating work related policies and standardize them by keeping up to date with the process followed in CMMI Level -5 companies.

    - Please don't be biased and take highly subjective decisions instead of establishing rules and norms.

    Pros

Good working environment. We want to work here for more few years and recommands our friends also. Advice to hiring dep, please be provide feedback in time. And let us to down our heads in front of 3rd persons. Who should be greatfull

    Cons

My friend was interviewd and completed 3 rounds. Final hr round will be conducted, as per athena hr words. 10Days over and no feedback from athena. For job seekers 10days will be most tensionfull days. Continuosly he is calling to consultancy who refered him,but no use. Even they didnt get the feedback. Please dnt spoil our reputation, and dnt made people to get tense. Give feedback as early as possible, it may good or bad.

    Advice to Management

Kindly have a look on hiring process. No feed back is properly given to the candidates. And it will spread by word of mouth to all and like slow poision it will reflect on the company reputation
