Cons

This company is as ridiculous as the Star Wars hierarchy they put in place for their employees. Companies in the adult world have Supervisors and Managers. Not eSquared. In eSquared you will be labeled as a Star Wars Jedi, Padawan or Knight. You will be expected to wear your Star Wars character on a lanyard at all times. In line with the Star Wars hierarchy, eSquared’s business structure encourages everyone to fight for the puppet master position at the “top” controlling people's behavior. Employees find self esteem fighting for Jedi or Knight positions so they can be on top telling everyone else what to do. Be prepared to be micro managed right down to when/if you can go to the bathroom. Unless you are management and then you can live in the bathroom. There is an unspoken rule that employees on the “top” are not allowed to socialize outside work or develop friendships with co-workers beneath them. You will feel this divide. Do not expect the opportunity to develop friendships in person or on social media with the people here. Friendships are not permitted. It’s simply an unspoken rule. Apparently Star Wars didn’t have a Human Resource department because eSquared does not have an HR department. HR departments act as the ‘middle man’ between management and employees or even among employees themselves. eSquared’s lack of an HR department supports a dictatorship. Management has countless hours to build Star Wars hierarchies but lacks time to build the tools you need to be a successful employee. eSquared’s business rules are completely incomprehensible. eSquared refers to business rules as your go to tool and these rules are out of date and chaotic at best. The business motto “everyone is responsible for everything” causes as much chaos and confusion as the business rules. Employees’ often say they feel like they are “drowning”. Be prepared: Write ups are frequent and positive feedback is non-existent. The abundance of write ups and lack of human connection make it easy to replace you. The turn-over rate with eSquared is incredible and don’t think you will be an exception. Soon you will be looking for a new job. There is no formal training. Training is frequently done by sitting at the desk of someone they hired just a few weeks before you. Do yourself a favor and set higher goals and expectations for yourself. Go find a company with an HR department. Find a company that will provide the opportunity to advance beyond being a fictional character. Go to a company that will provide you the training and tools you need for success. Find a business that has TEAMWORK in their business model. Do not settle for hierarchy and dictatorship.

eSquared Communication Consulting Response
8y
We read this review and wanted to comment on it as we always try to respond to these types of things. Part of the reason for this is that we know our current employees often read these and we want them to have a balanced perspective. This employee’s history at our company was a roller coaster for all involved, and while they brought value to the company for a long time, the end of that period and departure was not a smooth one for a number of reasons. Clearly they were extremely disenchanted with us as is evidenced by the comments they made, some of which we want to touch on here. We see this from time to time when a disgruntled employee chooses to excoriate us in social media with exaggerations of their subjective opinions. It was noteworthy that their repeated primary concern is apparently our choice to have a star wars themed training program with milestones represented by the lanyards. We do not see why that was such a negative thing in their eyes but they are entitled to their opinion. “Not having an HR department” -- we have already addressed this in prior responses. All of our employees know they have a safe route for escalation of HR issues. The concept that we micromanage is always a fine line and we admit at times it probably feels that way, but it also means those employees are getting instructed and trained. So, “yes” we will micromanage employees who are new or who are struggling, as this employee was near the end of their time here. The majority of our employees enjoy a tremendous amount of autonomy. Regarding going to bathroom – employees are adults and can go to the bathroom whenever they like. We have had issues in the past where certain employees were using it as a chance to have an elongated (30+ minute) break from work, which is unfortunate and awkward to deal with, but under no circumstance would we ever prevent an employee from having to go to the bathroom. We are perplexed by the language regarding discouraging of friendships, as we promote a family environment and team building. Yes there is a degree of space we encourage with managers socializing with their employees because it can exhibit or appear to exhibit favoritism e.g., “how come you went to Johnny’s home BBQ but not mine”. Regarding turnover, there is some truth to that but that needs some qualification: yes we have had turnover on one of the call center teams as is the industry standard, average tenure is lower than on other departments, but overall the company tenure is over 49 months, with several people here over a decade (and enjoying their 4 weeks of vacation). As a result of turnover for that team, we recently raised wages and added another week to our training program (which does indeed exist) and have already seen results. We also have streamlined our business rules and moved them to a very user friendly intranet with great results. Our company is absolutely replete with positive feedback, and to unilaterally state that there is none clearly shows that their statement is not to be taken seriously, so we will not address it further. This employee knows that these exaggerations are hurtful to the 100+ current employees who chose to work hard and bring a good attitude to their position here every day, and who want to stay positive and focused. As we mentioned above, part of the reason we ensure a response to these reviews is to remind not only the social media world and not only the potential new hires, but to remind our current employees that we care how they feel, how they are valued, how they are treated, that they are listened to and that their concerns are acted upon.

Pros

Some of the people here are great. I’ve made lasting friendships here. Sadly we started bonding by talking about how horrible a place this is to work at. Otherwise no good things.

Cons

Pay=sucks Management=sucks Owners=Fake When management isn’t obsessed with changing processes every five minutes they busy kissing up to their managers. Everything is micromanaged. Almost like they’ve got nothing better to do than watch your every move. Ps. All these good reviews here are fake because the employees are being told to write only good ones. Anything less than four stars we’re supposed to talk to our supervisor first. So keep that in mind.

Pros

I have been working for e2 for over 5 years and plan to retire here. I started as an intern and in only a few months I was able to work my way to a full time position. In a year I was promoted to lead and a year after promoted to supervisor then manager. If you are willing to put in the effort and time, I promise you will be recognized and advancement is just the beginning. We are growing very very rapidly and although we have had growing pains in the past and sometimes had to learn as we grew, it is very exciting what we have accomplished together as a team. I truly feel like e2 is my second family, and if it wasn't for my peers, regardless of their title, eSquared would not be the company that they are today; it is definitely a team effort and everyone plays their role. As far as those who has left negative comments regarding their experience, it is important to know that there are always two sides to the story. Remember, we are not a corporate company but a small business and it takes an e2 veteran to understand how far we have come to respect and appreciate the end goal. It should not just be up to management to make employees happy. We have implemented ways to communicate and give suggestions which 80% are taken into consideration and granted. Not just ideas such a spirit week or better chairs, but workflow ideas for departments and training programs. If you don't ask, the answer is always going to be 'no' so speak up and let you management team know what you need to be successful including your work environment. We have an open door policy, and every employee should feel comfortable with talking to their supervisor or manager if he/she ever has any questions or concerns. If you are looking for stability, opportunity and a fun work environment with people that you will be friends with for the rest of your life, I encourage you to apply at e2 today!

Cons

We could do a better job of not only have internal work parties and team builders but also outside of work. Our training program could also be longer, but with this day in age technology is very hands on and we find that new hires are bored in a classroom setting.
