What is a Car Salesman?

A Car Salesman is a liaison between a customer and the dealership during the transaction of a vehicle. While they may be employed by the dealership, salesmen will negotiate on behalf of the customer to build a relationship and provide the best deal for both sides. During the sales process, a salesman will offer information, suggestions and comfortable amenities to customers. Salesmen who run consistent numbers can find themselves advancing to sales manager.

There is no specific education needed to become a Car Salesman. However, most employers require at least a High School Diploma, and some prefer college experience. A degree in Business, Marketing or Sales can be useful in this field as well as any experience in the automotive field. Salesmen work with people throughout the negotiation process. Possessing strong communication and interpersonal skills is a must.

Responsibilities for Car Salesman

  • Attend morning sales meetings

  • A valid driver's license
