Description:


The Data Engineer will find strategic solutions through creating and managing data infrastructure and tools, including collecting, storing, processing and analyzing a range of data and data systems. The Data Engineer will work with cross-functional teams to develop data models that feed business intelligence tools, increasing data accessibility, and fostering data-driven decision making across the organization.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

  • Perform root cause analysis on internal and external data and processes to answer specific business questions and identify opportunities for improvement
  • Build processes supporting data transformation, data structures, metadata, dependency and workload management
  • Create and maintain optimal and scalable data pipeline architecture
  • Assemble large, complex data sets that meet business requirements utilizing data warehousing and OLAP technologies such as Azure, AWS, and Snowflake
  • Identify, design, and implement internal process improvements: automating manual processes, optimizing data delivery, re-designing infrastructure for greater scalability, etc
  • Build the infrastructure required for optimal extraction, transformation, and loading of data from a wide variety of data sources using ‘big data’ technologies such as Azure and AWS
  • Implement processes and systems to monitor data quality, ensuring production data is always accurate and available for key stakeholders and business processes that depend on it
  • Perform data analysis required to troubleshoot data related issues and assist in the resolution of data issues
  • Design and evaluate open source and vendor tools for data lineage
  • Work closely with all business units and engineering teams to develop strategy for long term data platform architecture
  • Work with data and analytics experts to strive for greater functionality in our data systems
. Requirements:

Education and Training:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative field such as Computer Science, Statistics, Informatics, or Information Systems
  • Advanced working data warehouse knowledge and experience working with analytical processing systems, query authoring (SQL) as well as working familiarity with a variety of databases
  • Experience building and optimizing ‘big data’ data pipelines, architectures and data sets

Knowledge and skills:

  • Strong analytic skills related to working with unstructured datasets
  • Working knowledge of message queuing, stream processing, and highly scalable ‘big data’ data stores
  • Strong project management and organizational skills
  • Experience supporting and working with cross-functional teams in a dynamic environment
  • A successful history of manipulating, processing and extracting value from large, disconnected datasets
  • Experience with relational and analytical databases
  • Experience with data pipeline and workflow management tools
  • Service oriented attitude
  • Self-motivated
  • Able to maintain focus on key objectives

Experience:

  • 5+ years in a Data Engineer role
  • Experience with big data tools
  • Experience with Azure & AWS cloud services
  • Experience with object-oriented/object function scripting languages: Python, Java, C++, Scala, etc.
