How you can make a difference
With general direction and considerable latitude for independent judgment and discretion, this position of the Data Engineer contributes to a robust, customer-facing, data ingestion pipeline. This is a core product for our suite of services. It is a unique data project in that it is core to a wider software development initiative. You will be interacting with many microservice domain teams. Most of your colleagues (outside of your core team) will be cloud software architects and engineers. We use Azure Databricks, Event Hub, Python, and several other technologies that you should either already know or be excited to learn more about.

What you’ll be doing
  • Building data pipelines in Python and a possibility of Scala
  • Working with Spark and Kafka
  • Working in data modeling and enterprise data architecture
  • Working with Management Tools: Event Hubs, Azure Data Lake Storage, Azure Databricks, Azure Data

What you will need to be successful
  • Building both batch and streaming data pipelines
  • Fluency in Python and SQL, and at least one of Scala, Java, or C#
  • Exposure to a variety of database types—relational, document, graph, etc.
  • Experience in different data modeling implementations—data lakes, data warehouses, operational data stores, etc.
  • Distributed systems expertise, preferably Spark and Kafka
  • Strong data architecture intuition, to appropriately match systems and patterns to a diverse set of use cases
  • Python, Spark, NoSQL, SQL skill set and experience with CI/CD pipelines
  • Experience in microservices/APIs, and cloud-based CI/CD—preferably Azure DevOps
  • MSSQL databases on cloud, AzureCloud-hosted databases, such as Azure SQL Database and , CosmosDB
  • Experience in Hadoop / Spark technologies such as Hadoop, MapReduce, HDFS, Cassandra, HBase, Hive, Flume, Sqoop, Spark, Kafka, and Scala
  • Experience implementing enterprise level platforms and frameworks (IAM, nServiceBus, caching, logging, and monitoring)
  • Accustomed to security-minded diligence both on-premise and with cloud vendors
  • Familiarity with other products in Azure: Event Hubs, Azure Data Lake Storage, Azure Databricks, Azure Data Factory
  • Effectively communicates complex ideas to technical and business audiences
  • Desire to work in a collaborative agile environment solving problems as part of a team—openly giving and receiving feedback. Mobbing and/or pairing experience is a plus.
  • Commitment to design and deliver solutions that are readable, maintainable, tested, scalable, efficient, and innovative
