Director, Data Science

Job Summary
The primary purpose of this role is to provide advanced analytical capabilities to support data science initiatives. This position leads a team responsible for predictive modeling; personalization and recommendation algorithms; natural language processing and text mining; search recall, precision, ranking, and related problems; optimization and mathematical programming with applications in labor scheduling, inventory and capacity planning, network flows, and supply chain optimization. This role drives the strategy of the team by solving and prioritizing projects for business functions, removing barriers for associates, and serving as an expert in data science.

This role provides forward thinking and insightful analyses. This could include building personalization and recommendation algorithms utilizing a variety of disparate data sources including browse behavior, retail transactional, customer, voice of customer and operational data and providing segment and testing recommendations.

To be successful, the individual in this role must partner closely with cross-functional teams including Lowe's Digital, IT, Marketing, Services, Pro, Inventory Planning, and Supply Chain. This individual must have a strong interest in the retail space, a high level of intellectual curiosity, solid analytical skills, and the ability to deal with ambiguity. In addition, the individual in this role must anticipate future business needs, implement strategic frameworks, and develop staff accordingly.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Physics, Economics, Engineering, Computer Science, Data or Information Science, or related quantitative analytic field (or equivalent work experience in a related field) AND 10 years of experience in applied advanced analytics AND 8 years project management experience

OR

• Master's Degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Physics, Economics, Engineering, Computer Science, Data or Information Science, or related quantitative analytic field AND 8 years of experience in applied advanced analytics AND 6 years project management experience

OR

• Ph.D. in Mathematics, Statistics, Physics, Economics, Engineering, Computer Science, Data or Information Science, or related quantitative analytic field AND 6 years of experience in applied advanced analytics AND 4 years project management experience

Also

• 5 years of leadership experience with direct report responsibility
• 8 years of experience with advanced data modeling techniques

Preferred Qualifications

• Ph.D. in Mathematics, Statistics, Physics, Economics, Engineering, Computer Science, Data or Information Science, or related quantitative analytic field
• 12 years of experience in applied advanced analytics
• 5 years of leadership experience managing global team(s) in a retail environment
• 8 years of experience with advanced data modeling techniques
• 12 years project management experience
