What advice would you give to your past self about working in the advertising industry?
Why is it that so many us of hate our jobs in this industry? On paper, it pays pretty well, you get to make stuff and go on shoots etc. It’s not physically gruelling work and it’s not as dull as most office jobs. So what is it that makes us hate it so much? The hours? The creative frustration? The clients?
Go ahead and have fun with this one, but looking for real answers too. ‘Older’ creative here; my husband and I are starting to downsize.. close to retirement. Tossing stuff, donating, selling. But I’m stuck at a box of heavy awards. My first couple of Cannes lions, some one-show pencils, a slew of metal local awards. Too useless to donate. Too meaningless to sell. Too sentimental to toss. Scrap metal value? Melt down into coins and give the homeless? Serious though? What would you do?
I was let go without notice about eight months ago. Now, my former manager is reaching out to me to see if I would be interested in returning. I do need a job, but should I trust this opportunity?
Does anyone actually raise their hand when they’re having a slow couple weeks? Or do you keep your head down and enjoy the chill because it’ll inevitably pick up anyway?
Right now I think it’s the better of the 3 agencies under Group M
