I’ve started judging companies by how they reject candidates. Some places make you feel respected even with a no. I received the nicest rejection email today that let me down easy and still made me feel hopeful about my next interview. Others just ghost like a situationship. Can’t help but wonder how they think they’ll attract great talent they treated that way in the past?

My profession is actually architecture but I'm currently managing a bar. Last year I interviewed with a mid size architecture firm. First interview with talent acquisition went great, second interview with the person I would be reporting to was amazing. Talent acquisition person said she wanted to hire me. The format though was one more interview, which also went well, then they said one more which also went well. Then total silence. I emailed, texted and called them. Nothing. 6 months later talent acquisition person reached out saying that position had been put on hold and was now reopening for interviews. She asked if I was interested. Hard no for me. While it was never directly a rejection, that process was insane only to be ghosted for 6 months. She easily could have shot a text saying "position is on hold, I'll be in touch when it reopens." I do not want to work for a company that thinks this is acceptable. I wouldn't feel as strongly about it if they hadn't also made me feel like it was a sure thing.
Its definately a different world. I have applied to well over 50 positions and I would guess, 80% are just ghosted. I get the “thanks for applying” and then nothing after. I agree with your statement, this is / will be a direct reflection on how they treat their employees.
Try applying, getting a 1st interview that went great, then having a 2nd interview with the owners/founders that was amazing…only to be told weeks later, “we are moving some positions around and haven’t really decided if we are going to hire for this position or not.” Okay then, stop advertising for it on multiple platforms. This is how companies lose great candidates. Very frustrating.
In my next job I will make it my mission to sort out that part of comms!
At the end it doesn’t really matter. Judge them or not. If it’s not meant for you, don’t think too much about it and move on. If it’s meant for you, you will be accepted against all odds or logic. Company or person, same thing. Don’t over analyze. It is what it is and it’s not your fault.
A rejection doesn’t have to feel disrespectful. Communication and professionalism go a long way
You should find a solution to employeement like either a good fit or starting your own business or take any job available depending on urgency. If you become bitter because you feel companies shouls have hired yo i think be graDreful for opportunities for a stepoung stone or diamond in the rough adapt count blessings dont be bitrer.
The ghosting kills me!!
Yep totally agree. Some companies I had respect for I totally was turned off and would never want to work their given their hiring practices and how they treat candidates
Oh my.... this time feels so different I've been contracting for a good few years, as the recruitment and hiring platforms have significantly changed I'm open to any type of job (feeling pretty needy atm) I have many examples of being ignored after interviews however thought I'd share this banger! I undertook 3 rounds of interviews with a well known company (KPMG). First round went great, next day received the invite for round 2 (different interviewers every time), then quiet for approximately 3 weeks, I chased and was informed that 'most interviews take 2/3 weeks before feedback' (bearing in mind after interview 1, I received an invite for 2nd round the very next day), then 1 week later I received the invite for the final round....went extremely well, was with a director who gave positive feedback there and then BUT wait... Didn't hear anything back for about 3 weeks, so again I chased and was called back a few days later stating, Senior executives had decided to put the role on hold, but the feedback from the interviews were all unanimous to say I was the chosen candidate WHAT! You're telling me that I would have this job but it's on hold...then I asked why, how long is the expected time, could I speak to one of the interviewers, and the answer was, 'sorry don't know' 2 weeks later i checked if they were recruiting for a PM and they were but they slightly changed the job title and added 'risk' project manager What is this? I cannot compute (1+1=3) Like i said at the start, feels so different now
They don't.
