How much did you spend on your kid’s first birthday party?
I have a week-long work trip coming up. Our toddler is in daycare and she's super easy right now, but my husband is panicking because he’s never solo-parented this long. He wants to take PTO, bring our toddler, and come with me. He’s left me for week trips twice, and I handled it fine while working full-time. I have zero sympathy and want to tell him to suck it up. Am I wrong?
Working on potty training and my toddler is starting to get very mad when we try to get him in the potty or prompt him to let us know if he needs to go. Any tips?
Anyone live with their in-laws? Do you regret it? We are busy working parents and are thinking it might be great for the kids to have more loving family members at home. The idea is to renovate and create an in-law suite on the first floor so they can age in place and not have to worry about stairs. We and both kids would be upstairs. My only concern is if we end up fighting and damaging the relationship because we are in each other’s faces all the time. Thanks in advance for your input.
Feeling really burnt out lately. I’ve noticed I’m carrying almost the entire mental load in my relationship right now, and it's starting to weigh me down. I really need to talk to my partner about balancing things out, but I'm dreading the conversation. Any advice for bringing something like this up without it sparking a fight?
How much is childcare this summer going to run you? We have three kids under 10, and the cheapest program I could get us in is going to be $1,850 a month! When I was a kid, my parents paid $100 a week for both my brother and I. I would kill for that price tag.
Zero dollars
The first birthday we actually properly celebrated with a group of his friends with invites wasn’t until he turned 3. It was like 15-20 kids. We spent like $400ish on renting out a play place which came with a pizza lunch. Then cake, decorations, goodie bags, etc. So probably like $600 all said and done. Too much. But he absolutely loved it.
My in laws wanted to celebrate my daughter first birthday. So they spend around 1.5-2L for 1 night gathering. Invited around 200-250 people.
The cost of a croissant? Her birthday fell between the high holidays so no celebrating. Spend about the same the following 3 years too.
Probably $350 between food, drinks, decorations and cake for ~25 people. It was really an excuse to get our family and friends together for a summer bbq.
We spend about $500-600. You could say it was for her and us parents. It was a cookout at a near by park with our family and friends (50-65ppl) . We had just moved back closer to the city so it was an excuse to see everyone again and fellowship. But her 2nd birthday cost us less than $150. Dinner, Aquarium, and build-A- Bear ( bear cost the amount they turn so $2)
numbers in INR.. 1500rs for cake.... some 700rs for dress.. home cooked Briyani 5 kg cost around some 1000 - 2000rs..
Maybe $50 for cake + some paper banners
$1000
The beer and wine was probably $100 and I smoked a brisket. Otherwise we had a backyard birthday party for all the kids.
$1100 plus tips for staff. Winter so no outdoor options. Two year old, didn’t want to have the chaos of hosting at home. Play gym + pizza and cupcakes.
Maybe $400 or less. Had a backyard bbq with friends and family, just paid for catered food, alcohol, decorations. Grandma made cupcakes. We are lucky to have summer babies & a big backyard.
around $450-600
Close to $8,000 - this included travel and hotels for family members, as well as all meals for all days, entertainment, and a photographer. I’m never spending that much money on a kids bday [party] again!
Yeah - we were young and stupid and didn’t have a clue as to what type of precedent we were setting. Never did it again and don’t plan to!
300-ish? Coincidentally we had some family coming into town the weekend we wanted to celebrate so we took all the family out to a pizza joint and got a bunch of pizzas! It was a lot of fun, did homemade cake 🎂 at home with the crew afterwards. We had a November baby and it happened to be a pretty cold weekend so that’s why we opted to eat out, otherwise we would have done it in the backyard with delivery.
