What exactly is the difference between systems engineering and IT implementations? Is there mostly a focus on custom built applications?

May be an issue partially of terminology but systems engineering is more like business analytics/business process management I'm sure that there's a really related term that means what you're thinking, or that this term means multiple things

Yeah that could be the issue. My lead on a project has suggested I look into systems engineering courses and the main reason I’m making a connection is because of my history of IT implementations. This is my first engagement where we are building a custom app on top of multiple different systems and integrating them. It’s interesting and if the title “systems engineer” gets me out of point and click implementations I want to explore it.
