Weichai Power goes diesel. The company, through seven subsidiaries, builds high-speed, heavy-duty diesel engines (WD615 and WD618), automobiles, and major vehicle components, such as axles and gear boxes. The company's engines can be found in passenger cars, buses, trucks, generators, marine vessels, construction machinery, and agricultural equipment. More than half of its sales come from its automobile manufacturing and components division. Weichai Power trades primarily in China (but is making inroads into India) and provides after-sales support through about 500 service centers throughout the country. It is launching a new engine research and development center in 2010. The company was established in 1953.
