Pros
My internship at AMILI has been an incredibly enriching experience, both intellectually and personally. From the beginning, I was trusted with meaningful tasks rather than just observing from the sidelines, which accelerated my learning and gave me a genuine sense of contribution. The exposure to real‑world applications of microbiome science and preventive health has deepened my interest in how research can translate into tangible benefits for patients and the wider community.
The learning opportunities at AMILI have been outstanding. I have been able to work closely with experienced mentors who are always open to answering any questions and explaining the rationale behind decisions. I have gained hands‑on experience in literature review, research, and understanding how clinical, research, and industry partners collaborate to build practical tools. Regular feedback has helped me reflect, improve, and take ownership of my work.
The work environment and culture are another major highlight. The team is warm, supportive, and genuinely mission‑driven, which creates a psychologically safe space to share ideas, admit mistakes, and learn from them. Despite everyone’s busy schedules, people are approachable and collaborative, and interns are treated as valued members of the team. There is a strong sense of shared purpose in advancing gut health and personalised preventive care, and that atmosphere is both motivating and inspiring.
Overall, my time at AMILI has affirmed my interest in medicine, public health, and innovation. I am grateful for the mentorship, the opportunities to learn by doing, and the culture that encourages curiosity, humility, and teamwork. I would highly recommend this internship to any student who is keen to explore how science, technology, and healthcare can come together to improve lives.
Cons
Mentors are understandably busy, so they may not have time to give the most detailed instructions and change priorities quickly. But this also teaches you to adapt quickly!
