Pros

I'm still a newbie here but I can already say it's the best company I've worked for, especially with regards to benefits and perks. You can tell they really take care of their employees. There's more diversity here than I've had at past companies too! Everyone is super nice and helpful and the founders are all very down-to-earth and easy to talk to. None of the bigwigs I've talked to are intimidating at all!

Cons

The only thing I can think of (since I'm still new) is that the office is located in Downtown San Mateo where you have to pay for parking...BUT the company still offers commuter benefits to help with that. It's really not an issue since working at the office is not required yet because of the pandemic.

Pros

I had never heard of Backblaze when I was recruited to work here, but it's easily the best place I have worked in my career this far. Backblaze hires smart people, pays them well, provides awesome benefits, conducts meaningful and creative team-building activities, and continually engages with employees to ensure they are satisfied. They have low turnover because employees are overall incredibly happy here. It's amazing how many companies can't figure out this very simple formula. There are no slackers here. Everyone is great at their job but not arrogant about it. Employees are given latitude to be both strategic and tactical and make decisions without micromanagement. Senior leadership is highly approachable, transparent, and involved. There's a strong emphasis on company culture and diversity. Many people at the company are remote, but Backblaze has figured out remote collaboration so no challenges there.

Cons

It's a rapidly growing company and it can be hard to keep track of who's who. Better processes are sorely needed or processes are constantly shifting because of new team members coming on board. There is really no onboarding program other than "Go schedule meet and greets with these 20 different people." No training in company tools like Slack and GSuite and Jira. You have to be willing to dig in and figure a lot of things out on your own. For a small company, work can take a VERY long time to get done. Some teams are fast and reliable to work with. But sometimes work that has to go through other teams can sit and sit and sit with no explanation as to why it's not moving forward.

Pros

positive work culture; everyone is genuinely happy about working there, very team oriented/collaborative environment. A unique & fun place to work and diverse culture with a lot of mutual respect and strong employee camaraderie, and very interesting conversation. Great benefits Schedule flexibility Stability and continuous company success & growth Dog friendly Very transparent environment No silo's founders and exec management believe in doing the right thing, are very much in the weeds with everyone else they ensure that you have a comfortable work station to foster efficiency in your role casual dress code good support provided by management Exec management is very approachable competitive salary and options offered Nice location in downtown San Mateo, walking distance to caltrain and tons of restaurants, stores, bars etc are all walking distance.

Cons

If you require a very structured environment to be successful in your role at work, this is probably not the place for you.
