Pros
The office dog was super sweet.
Cons
I was employed by Mercadeo Consulting LLC from mid Nov 2019-mid Feb 2020, hired to be their Multimedia Content Creator in charge of their photo/video production dept. This was my experience.
This position required immediate relocation from Missouri to Delaware leaving in less than a week from job acceptance. Being a beach city where seasonal beach tourists turn a 10 min drive into 3 hours, I was told to find a place within 5 miles, and the only place meeting that criteria was at an expensive apartment complex.
I also had to switch from my lifelong MAC platform to PC while learning their equipment, editing softwares, and workflow processes, however the owner gave me NO ADAPTATION CURVE WHATSOEVER!
I realized walking into my first project with him that his expectations about projects were unrealistic. Large scale projects specs were delegated verbally only. He refused to give any written project objectives or feedback for tracking and accountability purposes. When mistakes were discovered late due to his preferred operational methods, he pointed blame to his employees chastising myself and other staff in front of other team members.
The owner kept me at work late often (off clock) checking in on what I was working on throughout the day. These meetings were mostly to harass me about projects I was costing him money on, or that he could outsource my replacement from the Philippines, and even held me once for nearly 2 hours to lecture me on how business works.
Several times in front of the entire staff, he sexually degraded me with statements such as “you know you can come out of the closet, right?” or “You sure you’re not gay? HAHA!” And the worst was on the way to a client meeting where he said “I may need you to play up the Gay Card today to get this client”. He was grossly inappropriate and humiliating. I’m not gay, but his continued insistence that I was over the few months I was employed at Mercadeo Consulting in front of co-workers, marginalized my existence.
It got to the point that I saw enough unsustainable work practices, that I started reconsidering my decision as he wasn’t giving me any reason to stay at that point.
I was there for almost 3 months and saw a CEO with an EGO. He was disrespectful toward me and other staff both in person and in group chats online. He didn’t understand the standard workflow practices for my department, he only wanted things done “his way”.
He told me to my face the week before I quit, that any employee giving their 2-3 week written notice (which he requires in our contract to avoid being sued for damages) would be let go on the spot to avoid paying 2-3 weeks of wages for an employee that leaves the company, because its legal to do so as he can avoid unemployment if we quit.
One day he changed the specs of a large scale project again, days away from the shoot date and I’d finally had enough. I told him I’d be leaving and that I’d give him my 3-week written notice by EOD as per our contractual agreement and so as not to leave him hanging with upcoming projects.
He told me to leave, and to get out right there. He then told Delaware Unemployment Offices I rage-quit at will, and left without giving notice.
Anyway, to quit I had to break my lease and move which cost me $6,000 + moving expenses all over again.
This was more than I made working at Mercadeo Consulting in the 89 days of employment.
They also texted me after kicking me off their property demanding I give back their cheep plastic folding table they gave me when I moved, and kept bothering me to drive it to their office, as I was literally giving back keys and signing paperwork at my apartment with a loaded uhaul on a rainy day.
I don’t recommend ANYONE work for this place EVER.
