Pros

Short work hours, easy job. Easy visa.

Cons

Can I say everything? Essentially, the company will expect you to be at your work place well over an hour before your lesson. On your own time by the way, you're not getting paid for that. They treat their English staff like garbage. Keeping us ostracised from the Japanese parents. We're banned from speaking to them or speaking Japanese at all. Training accomodation is damp, mouldy with broken equipment and are fully expected to sleep on the floor. You're expected to travel nearly 2 hours to schools and arrive hours before class. The pay is low and the bonus after 12 months is a paultry 80K. On top of that, there's 0 room to move through the company as they directly discriminate against you. No matter how good your Japanese gets, you'll never move more than 1 rank to performance supervisor. But if you're Japanese...you can move up as high as you want. Wtf. The training staff were also constantly late to training days with 0 apologies or reasons and always ran past our finish time.

Pros

The friend I made who was also my coworker.

Cons

The management is very abusive and has no understanding or tolerance for being late, even by like 1 minute. When I first got there, I was late one time because I got on the wrong train. The trainer, who was from Canada, treated me like I killed someone. He took a “point” from me. You o my get 4 late points for the entire year before you’re fired. Also, the other supervisor that I had was a huge jerk. He was so serious all the time and picked favorites. He would purposely try to embarrass and belittle me in front of the other teachers. One time when I was late, he told me to come to his office and then yelled at me at the top of his lungs, and cursed at me. Then as a punishment, he made me stay there for the rest of the day shredding papers. I would not recommend this job to ANYONE.

Pros

short work days, decent pay, and light work load.

Cons

I want to start this by saying most of these cons have "may" in them for a reason, from what I can tell my experience was rather unique. No set schedule. One may be expected to work 6 days a week multiple weeks out of the month. No travel stipend. Expected to take trains to and from locations, which may make transit up to 3 hours leading to not getting back until after midnight. Corporate tends to be angry when you ask for assistance with anything. Schedule may change with less than 24 hours notice, may take you outside of your prefecture, and can lead to you teaching Japanese teacher lessons (which you may or may not be trained to do). The teaching model has you see each of your students max two times a month.
