Software Engineer

Pros

Point Inside has the best work/life balance out of all of the companies I've worked for. They understand that you have a family/life outside of work and they value that, this is one of the best things about working here. I've been working here as a software engineer for just under 6 months and have learnt so much already. There is flexibility in technologies you want to use, as well as projects you want to work on. And there is always really interesting features that are waiting to be built. Management in my experience has been good, they are transparent in company's progress, whether it is ups or downs.

Cons

Seems to have high turn-over rate, people you really liked to work with tends to move on to bigger companies after 1 + years.

Pros

Caveat - I have been with PI for just one week thus far. Open space structure - no separation between leadership and workers - actually no feel of "class" differences at all. Family oriented environment. Having FUN means something - enjoying the workplace means something - getting input across the floor means something. Life Work balance means something. Acknowledging each other for contributions means something. Solving impediments TOGETHER versus calling out failures of groups or individuals means something. Valuing and asking feedback from everyone involved - strongly pursued and appreciated within the office (even the newest person - day 1 on the job). Brilliant passionate people focused on the customer and the path to be better and better - SOLID on setting company values and roadmaps and following them. Weekly meeting across all departments set aside specifically to just "sync" on current efforts and to help each other. Genuine interest across everyone to help each other.

Cons

MS Office is still 2013 (lol).

Smart people solving hard problems

Pros

Management has done a great job of picking a specific strategy, communicating it well, and sticking with it. We have platform that could be sold to lots of different types of businesses, but we have focused on a specific industry (retail) and a specific market segment. This is not always easy for a start up and shows the maturity of the management team and the CEO in particular. Secondly, as an engineer it's rare to find a company with as many interesting technical challenges as we have. From big data analytics to the mobile platform and in between everyone has interesting problems to solve and are using modern cloud hosted tools and tech to solve them. I've learned how to use Hadoop, Hive, Pig, Node.js, and more since I've been here.

Cons

Parking in downtown Bellevue is expensive. The office is next to the transit center so bus it if you can. The company does have a parking subsidy that helps. There are a lot of Seahawks fans here (just going to put that in this section w/o further comment).
