Pros

Some good, smart people work for the organisation, particularly at the lower levels The public service broadcasting work is commendable and worthwhile Good work/life balance

Cons

Organisational inertia makes RTÉ very slow to change Some people in the organisation have been there too long and have checked out, they need to incentivise staff at all levels of org. Not enough investment in training or technology, RTÉ will fall further behind without this.

Pros

Interesting work, some smart and talented colleagues, some good quality content.

Cons

Most conservative media organisation I've worked in, very 'civil service'. Many people here have never worked outside RTE, so can be inward-looking, lacking in imagination with a certain breed of arrogance - but not aware of this. Bizarre recruitment and HR practices. Weird political atmosphere. Not a happy organisation. Few opportunities for growth. Some unprofessional encounters eg people simply not turning up to arranged meetings, all very Irish.

Pros

Pay was ok and RTE guide was a small plus

Cons

As the title suggests this company is about 15-25 years off being put out of existence by the blind, arrogant and top heavy senior management that is in place at RTE. They still believe that they can compete with the likes of Youtube, Netflix and all the other entertainment platforms even though there is no strategy to actually attract a new audiences or to even keep the current. As a semi state organization it is full of red tape except for those in high positions or if you are friends with anyone high up and this is just the tip of the iceberg in terms of what is wrong with this company. All functions of the company seem to reflect RTE's inconsistency and unorganized manner of getting things done and they don't link together meaning that you have to go from one function to the next to get an answer (HR - Finance - payroll etc). Dealing with employees who are late, sick or not even doing their jobs doesn't exist either except for those who actually do their job and if we need anything their is no flexibility at all. I would suggest to anyone who has ambition in their career to stay away from RTE, don't get fooled into the old adage of working for RTE is the best thing since sliced bread, its a failing company, run by people who are only looking out for their own interests and employs people who either leave very quickly or stay there and stagnate.
