I’ve worked for Specops for a few years now and have enjoyed my experience so far. Here are the things I like that characterize Specops’ workplace culture:
- European culture: Work-life balance, laid-back environment and relaxed managers
- Freedom and responsibility: You are given a lot of freedom to self-manage and are expected to take full ownership of your failures/successes
- Fun: They want you to have fun at work and they mean it. Employees are invited to breakfast/social hour every Friday and participate in various social activities. Annual international team-building trips and festive celebrations are nice perks
- Collaborative environment: You won’t hear people say “it’s not my job” here. Everyone wants to help
Cons
As the company grows, these are the challenges Specops faces today:
- Not having HR to run the people side of things
- Lack of formal processes for employees to follow
I joined Specops Software after working for larger organizations and I really enjoy the fact that I can see the results of my efforts in the success of the company. I've been given a lot of freedom, and responsibility, to get my job done as I see fit. My colleagues have a can-do attitude that means everyone helps out where they can regardless of title. The company is full of super smart people who are passionate about software.
Cons
As the company has grown it has experienced some growing pains in terms of not having formal processes in place.
