Pros
Potential* for overtime, weekends off with the option to work Saturday, flexible time off when requested ahead of time** * If the stars align and you manage to actually get 40 hours by Friday and then work Saturday ** I have not requested more than one day off at a time thus far, your mileage may vary for longer durations
Cons
Area Manager has no relevant prior experience pertaining to Traffic Control. Despite the company charging clients for eight hours of traffic control per AWP worker on site, you do not get a full eight hours if you don’t work eight hours. When certain clients allow you to go on standby, you must sit in your truck at the meet location in order to get your eight hours. You must pick up your qualified observer for work. You do not get paid for travel time until you’ve traveled more than one hour (if you stop driving, the timer resets). Travel time is paid separately from your base hourly wage (eg you worked 40hrs and traveled 8, you do not get overtime). Frequent last minute cancellations from contractors may leave you in an uncomfortable financial situation. Frequent fluctuations in time worked per week (my worst week was 5 hours, best week 52 hours)
