What is the hiring process like at Tanium?

      Tanium reviews

It isn't you, it is Tanium - Focused more on bottom line than on people

      Director, product management
      Former employee
      Kirkland, WA
      Recommend
      CEO approval
      Business outlook

      Pros

The individual contributors that have been there for more than 4 years are some of the best in the industry. They are the reason Tanium used to be a great place, and are still some of the best people to work with.

      Cons

Multiple instances where highly paid high performers were told they were no longer meeting expectations and fired weeks later without any metrics to improve by, or never given an opportunity to transfer to another role. While Tanium still has a very complex hiring process and are good at finding the best people, the new breed of Executives have caused the culture to become full of fear and not willing to speaking up. Too many vocal peers suddenly disappear the next day. During my tenure, multiple layoffs without an announcement, with entire teams gutted. A quite firing or RIF with no end of action announced or plan provided as to how they messed up so bad. Product Marketing had two layoffs where they removed all leadership in 3 years. Leadership would create new teams expecting the sales needle to move and when it didn't quickly, reversed direction and would let people go. Changing of executive leaders resulted in removal or demotion of long standing Tanium loyal employees. Loyalty is expected one way only, to the top. No ability to deliver product, the tech debt and decisions made by one of the founders created a Sisyphean struggle to try to keep up, but it is impossible.

      Great place to work

      Pros

      * Compensation is fair * Health insurance and benefits in general are good * Knowledge sharing between teams; people are interested in the work they do

      Cons

      * Poor 401k match ($3k) * Hybrid hiring policy for new candidates reduces talent pool and extends hiring process unnecessarily * Feels like senior leadership is unsure if they are a startup or an established business

      Pros

I come from larger and much more structured companies, and I had never heard of Tanium before the headhunter called me... From the recruitment process onwards, I found the professionalism and values to be absolutely impeccable. After a year of work, I am absolutely happy with my choice, with the manager who helps me in my growth path, and with the balance between work and my private life. I recommend my company without hesitation!

      Cons

For now, I can't find any areas for improvement.

      Business outlook

      Pros

As the headline implies it is a workplace like no other in comparison. And I have been around for 27 years. The Technology is unique and it demands that you learn how to talk about it in an explanatory fashion holistically. The team and internal resources will go the extra mile for you at the outset. We win as a team and that is something everyone adhere to and take pride in. Teams united operating with humility creates outstanding individual performances, The ethical standards are at the highest level I have experience. Not a hygiene factor taken for granted. It's infused from day one with no leeway in any case. And in the end it's in your DNA. That is what Tanium explore in it's rigorous hiring process. With a perfect cultural fit you can overcome in lacking experiences. Rest assured that I will stay until retirement.

      Cons

It's complex and demanding. No quick fix no matter how brilliant you are. Embrace it from start that you need time to learn. And keep learning consistently over time. It is a crowded business we operate in and Taniums offering broad. Prospects will compare apples with pears. And you need to enlighten and educate in the sales process. Patience, preserverance with a positive attitude will help.

Micromanaged hybrid policy, weak training, and overlooked departments

      Customer success manager

      Business outlook

      Pros

There are a lot of incredibly smart and driven people at Tanium. The company tackles interesting problems in cybersecurity, and when you're able to focus, the work can be rewarding. Compensation is decent, and you get free lunch in the office. The hybrid work policy sounds flexible—at first.

      Cons

Unfortunately, much of what you're sold during the interview process doesn’t hold up. I was told that as long as I was meeting expectations and attending mandatory in-person meetings, there was no strict requirement to be in the office a certain number of days each week. That promise was quietly reversed—since February, employees have been expected to badge in at least twice a week, and leadership is now threatening to withhold stock refreshes from those who don’t comply, regardless of performance. The in-office experience isn’t great either: limited quiet spaces, harsh fluorescent lighting, low-quality monitors, and a general environment that’s not very conducive to focus. The free lunch is appreciated, but it’s not anything to get excited about. Overall, I get more done at home without the distractions. Training also leaves a lot to be desired—especially for new hires who are expected to ramp up quickly without sufficient support. Additionally, Customer Success is often treated as an afterthought. We’re excluded from major events like SKO and Converge (hosted at Universal Studios with customers), and not eligible for the Sales Club trip. It’s clear that Sales is prioritized, and other departments don’t get the same recognition or investment.
