Well-known brand with a solid reputation. The company is making efforts to improve culture and processes. Compensation and benefits are competitive.
Cons
Career advancement and internal mobility opportunities are limited. Team dynamics can vary significantly depending on the manager, which impacts overall experience.
Pros
Great benefits and salary, plenty of opportunities for growth, wonderful managers who are understanding and recognize that you’re a human being with feelings and personal issues, fantastic coworkers, and an amazing work environment.
Cons
I have absolutely nothing to complain about.
Pros
pokemon but lacked growth opportunity
Cons
no pals unfortunately got axed because of this
Pros
Company cares about its employees and treats them well. Lots of perks and great benefits. 401k matching is great! A place that fosters creativity and really encourages new ideas. Diversity is great and there's a lot of support for many groups within the company. Company also does a lot of charitable work. Flexible hybrid work schedule is a big plus!
Cons
Work life balance is not ideal, both for management and individuals. Company puts a lot of importance on goals, but it never feels like there's enough time to work on them. Bonuses are heavily swayed by goals, which is not great when you're too swamped with work throughout the year. With the restructuring of career growth paths, it feels more difficult to advance your position than it was previously. Still feels like executives don't fully trust employees to get their work done unsupervised, but a lot better than most places. I do wish there was less monetary importance put on bonuses and that money was used to increase salary pay across the board.
Pros
- Iconic brand whose backing has generated very passionate fans-turned-employees. There is a great deal of organic motivation from staff. - Health insurance is top-tier - Best-in-class 401k matching program (dollar for dollar); unheard of elsewhere
Cons
A once "everyone knows one another" and genuinely people-first culture is no more. As the company exponentially expanded, workplace culture backslid. What has resulted is an organization that props up a former veneer of itself, touting diversity/core values/positive global impact externally - yet the truth couldn't be any starker. Other reviews are correct that this private company has not ever experienced layoffs. But the last 2 years have seen a massive upheaval of terminations (and not for the individuals/leaders who actually should be removed). Office politics has become rampant and burnout is not exclusive to any single function, it is universal. Employee engagement initiatives (employee resource groups, social responsibility efforts, learning and development) that once felt sincere and resourced are now nearly non-existent. It feels like employees are actually being penalized for volunteering to support the positive working culture - a lot of those fired coincidentally are from these spaces. The company is private, but it cannot make brand decisions without express approval from headquarters in Japan. As much as TPCi intends to stand on its own, parental japanese business culture is firmly ingrained and it stifles innovation, efficiency, and progress. A former pro would have been internal mobility. But now leadership is saturated, middle management is apathetic without progress, and individual contributors are stuck in their roles for many years. If you're looking to grow your career, this is not one of those places unless you enter as a Sr. Manager or Director. Finally, there have been attempts to take this company's tools/systems out of the Stone Age, but progress is painfully slow and change management to get people to learn new things is poorly done.
Pros
Free cards and food. Nice office. Insanely large bonuses on top of decent pay and benefits. Great work/life balance (until they forced return to office).
Cons
The person who posted about racism was correct. If you're not Asian (Japanese), you will never rise to a position of real influence at the company. More importantly, take a look at the Pokemon games over the last decade. How have they been? Stagnant and consistently poor in quality? Decreasing even in quality? That's reflective of this company. This company is a great place to work if you want to be stagnant in your career and strive for mediocrity. They make infinite amounts of money, so there is no desire to improve or even be good. It's just a great place to keep a seat warm, make a pretty good amount of money, and have to do virtually nothing. For some, that's a dream. For others, it's just a really sad situation. Also, they're back to mandating in office work even though they thrived during the remote work environment. It's just the toxic Japanese work culture taking over again.
