Pros
Flexible Schedule, but you can get that elsewhere too! Great for college students or someone who's desperate enough to work for average pay with no benefits.
Cons
Managers are controlling and will go after the ones doing their job. First off, when Torchy's first opened, the first GM was a control freak. He demanded absolute silence from everyone, like no music in the kitchen (this later changed and the other managers allowed it)... he later "quit." Allegedly it was because he kept saying the N word in Spanish. Several managers from there were in and out temporarily to sub in from other locations. One manager kept showing up high, he later "quit" too. All the managers, for the most part, were the same. I can list out most of their names but in the first 2 years, we had like 10 managers.. They always had ONE person doing the most jobs and responsibilities. For instance, in the beginning they required cashiers to put all the chairs on the table, sweep, mop, and take out all the trash for the front house... This duties changed later on but that's besides the point. This was never included in the job description. Short version to the story is the mangaers will micromanage you.. offer people vastly different pay based off favortism, and criticize the hell out of you. The starting pay back in 2020 was $9. Someone I knew that worked LESS than I did was given a $1 pay raise. They tell you if you cross train, you get paid more. But managers will only hand out pay raises if they like you (not base of your work ethic).. there was a visiting manager that came and liked the way my coworker did her job and told the GM to give her a .50 pay raise and he did. Oh by the way, he only saw her work for ONE day. So she made $10.50 (working only TWO days).. while I was paid $9.25 doing 4-5 days a week closing.. In the end after 2 years, we made $13/ hour. Just goes to show you how biased they are. Because I only got pay raises after letting them know I wanted one (quiting once, threatening to quit etc).. after finding out from my co-workers how much they got paid. I can go on with the pay discrepancies.. And the managers are hypocritical. They'll criticize other people to you and talke bad about anyone that leaves. Which inlcuded me on my last day.
Finally quit after hearing about a better job and opportunity elsewhere.. I definitely should've left earlier but the only benefit here was they barely give any hours so it's a great job in that sense. They'll cut you if they're slow but god forbid you ask to leave when it's slow even though they'll cut a bunch of people in a heartbeat.. like I said, control freaks.
But yeah, they'll call you all sorts of things when you call them out.. but these are the same people that employ people that show up high.. and there was a manager that was rooming with another employee... yeah we all knew.. she would let her sit at the bar and do nothing, with a dirty work space.. oh they run out of soap a lot, so they also wash their baskets in sanitizer and rinse only.
I quit and found a better job that paid more, actually had benefits, and is fair in how they treat their employees.
