There were three levels of screening: First they text you, ask about your background, light questions. Second, they schedule for an interview on Skype, individually at first. When you passed that, they had a group Skype call and video conferencing, and the recruiter has 4-5 applicants (including you) simultaneously try to apply for positions all in one day. They give you guides and lesson plans. Very professional... Or so I thought. The recruiter then transfers you to another HR person who then pretends that they're the five-year-old Chinese student, and this is where it goes downhill. The supposed five-year-old is supposed to say the word back to you, but they don't mention that important tidbit in the lesson plans. They dock points off you when you don't have props around (which the lessons said "IT WAS OPTIONAL, NOT NECESSARY"). Then this supposed five-year-old recruiter won't offer any credible or detailed explanation once your mock session is done. They will put you back to the recruiter who first spoke with you in the beginning of the interview process, who was impressed with your performance (they'll say that you'll be a shoo-in since you're a native speaker and you have had experience before) and they will relay the confusing news to you. It's a good thing that this initial recruiter was apologetic, profusely apologetic. I believe that this is some kind of industry practice among Online Chinese ESL schools, and it is VERY UNPROFESSIONAL. It shows a lack of coordination in each department, and a haphazard way of conducting their hiring process and maintaining their workforce. If they pay this much ($22/hr for native speakers or the paltry Php 100/hr or $4/hr for expats living abroad), then they shouldn't be surprised about the high turnover. Eventually their business will fold up because of their UNPROFESSIONALISM, and word spreads fast. Their clientele will WANT better treatment and wonder why their teachers are easily replaceable
