I connected with a recruiter who did an initial phone sceening. I waited several days to see where it would go then finally decided to complete the online application.
As soon as I submitted it, a different recruiter contacted me immediately. After another phone screening, a phone interview with the exec editor was scheduled.
The interview lasted 45+ minutes. It was challenging and fair. I was asked to write a sample article for the blog and edit an existing freelance piece. This step took 3 days to complete and then another 3 days to receive feedback.
The "feedback" was simply a rejection email. I had to reach out to ask why I was rejected. I wish there would have been more specific feedback and a little recognition for taking the time to do the work. For people who have jobs but are giving all they have to land an opportunity like this, some recognition would be very appreciated.
All in all, the interview process required hours of work and preparation with little to no ROI.
