Just like the other two posts below I was really surprised, and almost put off, by how fast the interviewing process was. I saw the job posting on a job board, applied, the next day they called me to ask me to come in for a interview. Two days after getting the call I'm in the interview.
In the first interview they ask very basic questions: Where do you see yourself in five years? Why do you think you would make a good sales rep? Tell me a little bit about yourself? Upon competition of this they said if they were interested they would call back between 6:30PM and 7:00PM. Later that night I received a call asking to come back for a second interview which I would be job shadowing.
Two days after the first interview, I arrive for the second interview. Once I wait in a small office lobby with five other candidates. After that I was introduced to my interviewer/ sales rep I would be with that day. The day was broken up into three parts, the first part of the day was when we were driving to all of the leads that she had generated, the second part was lunch where much of the interview took place, and final part of the day was going door to door asking people if they were satisfied with their office supply provider. Throughout the day the interviewer asks you if you know what indirect marketing vs direct marketing is? Then ask other questions to see where your career goals stand.
On the way back the interviewer that I shadowed told me that when I got back they would either ask me to go home or in for a 3rd and final interview.
Upon arrival back at the office, you fill out a questionnaire on how the day went, and rate your interviewer. I was called in for a 3rd interview (which seemed like pretty much everyone gets called back).
The third interview you get asked how they day went, if you liked the job, if you could see yourself doing the job on a daily basis...No pressing questions that's for sure. After the third interview is over and I was told if I received a call that night they would be offering me the job, otherwise they went a different direction. I received a call that night, asked them if I could have a day to think about it, and declined the following morning.
I felt as if I was trying to be sold the job from start to finish. During the first interview they try to sell you on their work hard/play hard atmosphere, and all the opportunity that is available. Then during the second interview the sales rep draws a diagram that shows how in two years you can making $80,000, and owning your own consulting firm. Then finally, in the third interview there are no hard questions they just ask if you think you can do the job. If you are desperate for employment or you could see yourself as an outside sales rep then this is the job for you.
