I took a tour of the West Valley II campus with several other prospective employees. The tour took about 20 minutes. The administrator giving the tour was Jen Walstad. Mrs. Walstad has great energy and was extremely knowledgeable about the school and teaching. She did a great job of explaining the prescribed teaching method used at the school and the kind of culture they foster at the school. She asked the interviewees some questions while we toured and she was watching the way we interacted with the students. After this, we all went into a room to take some content tests. The math test appeared to be straight from a student's Saxon math textbook. I then got to have a one-on-one interview with Jen. She asked me why I wanted to teach and asked about my background. She just asked the usual kinds of questions and she was very friendly. After this interview, I was interviewed by the founder of the school, Carolyn Sharette. This interview was done via SKYPE and it was awkward because of the lag time involved but Mrs. Sharette was nice and the interview was short. I would say the interview process was a breeze.
