      User Experience Researcher Interview

      22 Nov 2020
      Anonymous employee
      San Diego, CA
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at AnswerLab (San Diego, CA) in Oct 2020

      Interview

Started with a screening interview with HR. Then a mock usability session with a project manager. Had to deliver a mock screener, findings document, and moderator guide outline. I was also asked to write down what I learned from the mock session and what I would do better, reasons why I wanted to work at AnswerLab and share some information about my personality. (Not a personality test or quiz, just a general "tell us about you at work and at play.") Final interview with Hiring Director and Senior UX Researcher.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

What are you looking for in a new job? What are you not looking for in a new job? Talk about your most favorite or proudest project.

      User Experience Researcher Interview

      10 Feb 2022
      Anonymous employee
      Los Angeles, CA
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at AnswerLab (Los Angeles, CA) in Jan 2022

      Interview

The first interview is with an external recruiter asking all the basic background questions, e.g., which methods are you familiar with, how many user interviews have you conducted, who have you presented to, how would you make a client feel comfortable, etc." This one is pretty dry as they basically just type out your answers verbatim. The next step is a 30-minute mock usability test of a website of your choosing. You then have 72 hours to prepare a report including an about me, learnings from the process, your mod guide, and an example of prior work. The third and final step involves two back-to-back interviews with senior researchers. This one is basically just a bunch of behavioral questions. Despite the amount of work involved, everyone I interviewed with was extremely warm and really put me at ease. They take the process seriously and yet aren't at all intimidating.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

-Tell me about a time that you received negative feedback and how you handled it. -Tell me about a time you had to take on a role/task you weren't familiar with and how you handled it. -Tell me about a time you experienced a conflict with a coworker and how you dealt with it. -Tell me about a time something went wrong and what you learned from it. -What growth opportunities are you looking for in your next role? -How many user interviews have you conducted? -Who have you presented to, (e.g., CEO, Head of Product, etc.)? -How do you make clients feel confident in your abilities? -How do you handle deadlines? -What's your process in synthesizing qual data?
