      Chemist Interview

      19 Aug 2018
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Declined offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Aromair in May 2018

      Interview

I applied on a 3rd party website and got an interview fairly quick. There wasn’t even a phone interview (which is bad in this case). For the in person I was interviewed by 3 people. 1 HR, 1 manager, 1 potential coworker. Before we even started with the interview the manager stopped and asked for my salary expectation. Their absolute max was incredibly low, the absolute lowest end $37k of the scale for a full time chemist in the area. The amount of stuff required in the job was a ton too. The manager wanted to stop the interview right there as my current salary was a significant % higher. I insisted we continued. After all I took time off of work and got dressed in my suit for this. It is extremely unprofessional to waste an individual’s time like that. The rest of the interview went pretty normal. Although I’m sure the potential coworker was uncomfortable after the salary discussion as I revealed what I made elsewhere, where almost anything would be a 10-20%+ bump for him. The salary shouldn’t have been discussed at all at this point. All 3 of the interviewers were at the company less than 2 years. That is a giant red flag to me as it shows this is not a company to grow a career. It’s not a fresh start up so why isn’t there anyone there with longer experience? I’m guessing the low end of pay. I found it was incredibly unprofessional how they handled this interview with the salary expectation. That should have been done in a phone screening interview for its either HR or the hiring manager. I also interviewed here a 2nd time for a production operator position. I talked to a third party staffing firm HR person they have on site. We scheduled a interview at noon during my work. The person didn’t provide any confirmation email. I arrive at the schedule day/time a few days later and this person wasn’t expecting me! We did the interview anyways, and he had no idea on how to conduct an interview as his questions were really weird, he interrupted me during my answers, and just had odd body language. I have been to about 100 interviews in my life so far and this particular one was absolutely the worst. At the end of the interview he wanted me to come back the following week to talk to the hiring manager. There was absolutely no need for me to interview twice as this person was completely unorganized and didn’t schedule out a time slot for me and the manager the first time. The position also paid very poorly ($14/h no benefits), so it’s not like you need to do a ton of vetting at this pay rate. It’s kinda weird how out of 100ish interviews in my life this company produced the absolutely worst 1&2. I wouldn’t waste my time with them as their pay is so far below par you’ll find something better anyways.
