      Software Engineer Interview

      25 Jun 2019
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 months. I interviewed at Aspire in Mar 2019

      Interview

The whole interview process was a mess. After I applied for a full time position online, a recruiter reached out to me with a calendly link to schedule an intro call. After I scheduled it, she replied saying she was looking forward to our call. Then, she proceeded to completely miss our call with no prior notice. After 10 minutes of waiting for the phone to ring I sent her a reminder to which I got no response. Later that day she emailed me that she was "SO sorry" because "something came up" and asked if we could reschedule. I let this one mishap slide and scheduled another meeting time with her. This time again she said that she was "looking forward" to our call. I waited 20 minutes from our scheduled call time before sending her another email asking if we were still chatting that day. I got no response again. Five days later she randomly emails me asking if I can take a call that day because she was "out sick basically all last week." (Mind you, those two missed calls were within the same week and she didn't give that excuse the first time.) I gave her the benefit of the doubt because I was interested in the product (I used it back when they were Revfluence) and didn't want to let a bad recruiter define the whole company. So I discussed scheduling with her AGAIN. This time, instead of scheduling a call, she tells me that she has an internship opportunity available that she could send me info for. This was not ideal but I told her I'd be open to reading more info about the role. NO RESPONSE. I followed up again about it and finally she sends me a HackerRank challenge. The challenge was extremely difficult for an intern level. I've done many coding challenges for FULL TIME jobs and none of them were remotely as difficult as the one I received from AspireIQ for an internship. After I submitted my solution, I got no response, which was to be expected at this point. I made many excuses for the recruiter because I was a strong believer in the product that I had used in the past. But I recently logged back in to their website and it seems like they don't have any good brands working with them anymore either. I can't say I'm surprised after seeing how disorganized and unprofessional they are internally. They have left a bad taste in my mouth now, and I won't be using their services or recommending them to anyone anymore.

Hi there! Thank you so much for the detailed review. Without feedback like this, we as a company cannot understand what we’re doing right, and more importantly, what we’re doing wrong. So while we regret to hear about your experience with AspireIQ, we welcome your honesty and appreciate the time you have taken to explain where we can do better. Because of this mishap, we’d like to assure you that the teammate you spoke with is getting training due to this feedback. We do not take this situation lightly. As a growing startup, we sometimes make mistakes along the way. We’re sorry for how we made you feel and we’re committed more than ever to be more communicative, more proactive, and more approachable. If you’d like to discuss any further, please reach out to recruiting@aspireiq.com. We wish you the best of luck in your future endeavors, and again - our sincerest apologies.

      Interview

Recruiter reached out to me and gave me their CTO's Calendly link, so I booked a phone screen more than one week out. The day before the phone screen the CTO cancelled the Calendly meeting with no explanation or rescheduling.
