      Product Manager Interview

      3 Jan 2025
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Manila, Manila
      Declined offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at AvePoint (Manila, Manila)

      Interview

2 rounds of interviews, 1st one is technical team, 2nd with product management scope of work, all from China. There were rude questions when it comes to negotiating pay and talking about year of experience. My previous work involved BA which was not exactly Product Manager title but there were many similar experiences. Candidates are expected to not take long to train and had held Product Manager title before. There was great lack of ability to read CV because it is expected of candidate to explain in greater length how their experience relates, which was fine but it was evident that the person who asked questions was afraid of being replaced by the candidate. This explains for possible crude tone of voice and openly criticizing the candidate's salary expectation. When one does not make as much as the candidate's asking price, please refrain from openly showing dismay, especially in one's own line manager's presence. Plus JD asked for English speaking candidate, Chinese speaking is considered a plus, yet this is used to openly mock the candidate implying that candidates should only be paid higher if they can use both English and Chinese. Person asking questions can't even speak English clearly. Should you be paid more for just speaking Chinese? It costs so much hiring in China! This is evidence of the team dynamic once one starts working here. I have heard things about this company and its Chinese managers but I am glad to have experienced it so early on to duck this bullet.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

      1. What are your plan in next 3-5 years? 2. How familiar are you with Microsoft, Google, and Salesforce product? 3. What is your lowest expected salary? (asked about this so they will do everything just to shortsell you and make you agree to their lowest pay possible!)
