      Application

I applied through a recruiter. I interviewed at Awaze

      Interview

I was approached directly by a recruiter to apply for this job and was subsequently offered a video interview. To their credit, Awaze were accommodating and agreed to interview me early morning / outside of my working hours. The interview was booked for 45 minutes with two people from Awaze, When I joined the call, only one person was present (not two as arranged) and the interviewer immediately told me that he only had half an hour, not 45 minutes. I felt a little on the back foot from the off - as though my interview wasn't being taken seriously. Nonetheless it seemed to go well enough although I felt hurried towards the end, and the interviewer told me they'd be in touch. The recruiter then called me and said that the feedback on my interview was positive, and he was waiting to hear next steps which would be an in-person interview. A week went by and I didn't hear anything, so I followed up with the recruiter as I felt genuinely excited by the job. He told me he was still waiting to hear back, and I explained that I'd had other interview offers but that Awaze was my favourite potential role at the moment, so I requested an update either way. I never heard from the recruiter or interviewer again (although admittedly, I feel the recruiter is at fault here too, and there is a possibility that Awaze did supply feedback and it was never passed on to me.) However, some months later I ended up in correspondence with the same recruiter, who casually mentioned that Awaze "found someone for the role and fast-tracked her through the process" and that they are "notoriously bad at giving feedback." If this is the case, it feels as though it explains why my interview was cut short before it had even started, and why only one person joined the Zoom. Regardless, candidates spend time, energy and enthusiasm preparing and interviewing, and I think it's disappointing that a company can't send even generic rejection email when a candidate has interviewed. The experience knocked my confidence somewhat as I was left wondering what could have happened for them to ghost me.
